Stanley Works’ Sponsorship of the Atlanta Community ToolBank Benefits Atlanta’s Entire Nonprofit Sector

Atlanta, GA – March 1, 2008 – The Stanley Works, a global provider of tools, has committed a $60,000 grant to the Atlanta Community ToolBank, effectively subsidizing a portion of the cost of borrowing tools for 12 months, starting on March 1.

The ToolBank offers a vast inventory of tools and equipment for use by nonprofit organizations in service and volunteer projects. On a typical month, agencies borrowing ToolBank tools pay a handling fee of 6% of the retail value of tools borrowed. The borrowing period is 14 days, and handling fees are applied toward general program expenses. A sponsorship of $5,000 lowers the handling fee for all agencies by 1% for one month, making tool borrowing even more cost- effective to the nonprofit sector. Stanley’s sponsorship lowers the handling fee to 5% for an entire year. Additional corporate sponsors will lower the handling fee even further in later months.

“Stanley’s generosity toward the ToolBank will benefit hundreds of agencies in Atlanta as they put ToolBank tools to use throughout the metro area,” says ToolBank Executive Director Mark Brodbeck. “This important sponsorship allows nonprofit organizations everywhere to perform bigger projects with more equipment, and actually save money doing it.”

In 2007, The ToolBank, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, equipped more than 50,000 volunteers to perform 733 community projects such as park cleanups, school improvements, neighborhood beautifications, church renovations, playground building and shelter repairs. The ToolBank inventory includes power tools, landscaping and construction tools, plumbing and electrical tools, ladders and wheelbarrows, and much more. Tool borrowing is available to charitable organizations, public schools, places of worship, and neighborhood associations.

“We think the ToolBank is a unique nonprofit organization in that their mission is to help other nonprofits fulfill their mission,” said Tim Perra of The Stanley Works. “For its exponential returns, and the obvious opportunities to see Stanley® Tools put to good use in the Atlanta area, we are proud to partner with the ToolBank.”
