Broken Bow FFA Wins National Qualifying State FFA Forestry Career Development Event By Alexis Shanes, Media Intern

WILBURTON — The Broken Bow FFA Chapter won first-place honors in the National Qualifying State

FFA Forestry Career Development Event conducted by Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton.

Team members include Trevor Young, Brooks Ellison, Mitchell Magar and Cason Brewster.

The team’s agricultural education instructor and FFA advisers are Bolt Brandon, McGee Michael and Reavis Lance.

The forestry career development event challenges members’ ability to express their knowledge through a written exam of basic forestry principles, including tree and equipment identification. In addition, students must demonstrate practical forestry skills, such as identification of forest disorders, forest management, inventory and approved silviculture practices.

The contest sponsor is the Oklahoma FFA Foundation.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of

Career and Technology Education system. With more than 27,000 members and 357 chapters, the

Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
