Volunteer Groups: Tiers established 10/15 Mission Statement of OUAA:

The Ohio University Alumni Association exists to connect, inform and serve the University's diverse alumni and friends in support of the University’s Mission and Vision. This goodwill is achieved through strong leadership, dynamic programs and effective communication. Definitions: Alumni groups are organized by geography or affinity and then arranged in tiers based on the number of interested alumni and the number of events per year.  Geographic groups are classified as Regional Liaison, Regional Network, or Regional Chapter.  Affinity groups are classified as College/Special Interest Liaison, College/Special Interest Network, or College/Special Interest Society. Please see societies document for additional information. All groups offer alumni a variety of services and activities to promote alumni engagement because well informed, active alumni are vital to the growth and excellence of a university.  If no eligible candidate requests the position of (or runs for the position of) ____, the OUAA staff liaison may appoint an alumnus to serve for a shortened term (not to exceed one year).  A past president may serve a second time as president for a shortened term of one year if (1) appointed by the group’s OUAA staff liaison or (2) if the group requests the past president to fill the vacancy by a majority vote of the officers.  Affinity groups will be expanded to additional regions only at the discretion of the Executive Director or her/his designee. Such expansion would target key regions and be based on the strategic direction of the OUAA.

Tiers The tier system has been designed to achieve the maximize volunteer and alumni engagement. Regional Liaison  Hold a minimum of one event per year.  Participate in the VAAN postcard writing campaign or other recruitment program approved by your OAA staff liaison.  Be available to connect new alumni with each other.  Act as a guide for new alumni moving to the region.  Submit an annual report with a completed leader roster, and a year out planning calendar for annual recertification by the OUAA Board of Directors.  Have activity in at least ONE of the FOUR areas below:  Alumni Enrichment (museum tour, cooking or art class, educational program, etc.)  Community Service (adopt a highway, 5k walks, habitat for humanity, soup kitchen, etc.)  Career Networking (student networking/programming, mentoring, workshops, etc.)  Social/Celebratory (athletics, game watches, tailgates, welcome receptions, etc.) Network  Hold a minimum of two events per year.  Participate in the VAAN postcard writing campaign or other recruitment program approved by your OAA staff liaison.  Be available to connect new alumni with each other.  Act as a guide for new alumni moving to the region.  Forward all information on meetings, events, and attendees to OUAA.  Submit an annual report with a completed leader roster, and a year out planning calendar for annual recertification by the OUAA Board of Directors.  Have activity in at least TWO of the FOUR areas below: o Alumni Enrichment (museum tour, cooking or art class, educational program, etc.) o Community Service (adopt a highway, 5k walks, habitat for humanity, soup kitchen, etc.) o Career Networking (student networking/programming, mentoring, workshops, etc.) o Social/Celebratory (athletics, game watches, tailgates, welcome receptions, etc.)

Chapter  1000 alumni in a geographic area that does not duplicate an existing chapter  Hold a minimum of four events per year.  Participate in the VAAN postcard writing campaign or other recruitment program approved by your OAA staff liaison.  Be available to connect new alumni with each other.  Act as a guide for new alumni moving to the region.  Forward all information on meetings, events, and attendees to OUAA.  Submit an annual report with a completed leader roster, and a year out planning calendar for annual recertification by the OUAA Board of Directors.  Hold a minimum of four events per year.  Have activity in at least THREE of the FOUR areas below: o Alumni Enrichment (museum tour, cooking or art class, educational program, etc.) o Community Service (adopt a highway, 5k walks, habitat for humanity, soup kitchen, etc.) o Career Networking (student networking/programming, mentoring, workshops, etc.) o Social/Celebratory (athletics, game watches, tailgates, welcome receptions, etc.)
