9.00 – 9.50 Overview/Epidemiology of HIV Dr David Hawkins, Consultant Physician HIV/GUM At the end of this session, delegates should be able to:  describe the current prevalence and incidence of HIV (global/local)  outline trends in HIV epidemiology and reasons behind recent changes  list transmission and behavioural risk for HIV infection  identify those at high risk of HIV infection  describe the benefits of early diagnosis

9.50 – 10.45 Clinical Features and presentations – Part 1 Dr Keerti Gedela, Consultant Physician At the end of this session, delegates should be able to:  recognise clinical signs and/or symptoms suggestive of underlying immunosuppression and HIV infection  recognise clinical signs and/or symptoms suggestive of Primary HIV infection  describe how to manage conditions which may be seen in primary care  recognise when to refer and who to contact

11.00 – 11.45 Immunology, principles of treatment Professor Brian Gazzard, Chair, St Stephen's AIDS Trust At the end of this session, delegates should be able to:  describe the immunological consequences of HIV infection  appreciate the role of immune modulators and/or immunisation in control of HIV understand the life cycle of HIV and targets for current drug treatments

11.45 – 12.30 Clinical Features and presentations – Part II Dr Anton Pozniak, Consultant Physician  describe the risks of opportunistic infections and tumours at certain CD4 values  recognise the common presentations of advanced disease and opportunistic infections  recognise when to refer and who to contact

2. 00 – 2.45 Mental health and living with HIV– Dr Alex Margetts, Clinical Psychologist At the end of this session, delegates should be able to:  describe the changing mental health needs of those living with HIV  recognise the psychological impact of living with HIV infection  discuss depression, suicidal behaviour and bi-polar illness in HIV infection  list the interactions between anti-retrovirals and drugs used for psychiatric illness

3.00 – 4.00 Current HIV treatment Sonali Sonecha, Medicines Optimisation Lead Specialised Services & HIV Lead Pharmacist At the end of this session, delegates should be able to:  apply the principles of antiretroviral treatment in current usage  list side effects and other practical difficulties/problems associated with antiretroviral treatment  demonstrate comprehension of the reasons for/against treatment at various disease stage  apply the current UK Treatment Guidelines (BHIVA) to clinical practice
