SYLMAR CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL

Classroom Preparedness Checklist

School Emergency Supplies Every teacher should store emergency supplies in case their students and staff are required to shelter in place due to an emergency or a lockdown. All supplies should be securely stored in an accessible location. Supplies that have expiration dates (such as batteries, food, and water) must be replenished over time.

Classroom Supply Checklist  Clipboard with (IN GO BAG)  List of classroom students  List of students with special needs and description of needs (i.e. medical issues, prescription medicines, dietary needs), marked confidential  List of emergency procedures  First aid supplies (See next page for details.)  First aid instruction manual  Medical gloves  Water  Battery-powered flashlight  Batteries  Blankets  Bucket (to hold supplies and to serve as an emergency toilet.)  Sanitary items (towelettes & toilet paper)  Work gloves  Breathing masks  Plastic sheeting (To create a privacy screen for toilet.)  Duct tape  Sanitizing Hand Gel  Hard candies

“Go Kits” In case of an emergency evacuation, it is critical that every classroom and office maintain a “go kit,” a self-contained and portable stockpile of emergency supplies left in a readily accessible location so that it is ready to “go.” Many teachers hang theirs near the door in bright orange Home Depot Bags. Make sure the class list is up to date periodically.

Go Kit Supply Checklist  Clipboard with  List of classroom students  List of students with special needs and description of needs (i.e. medical issues, prescription medicines, dietary needs), marked confidential  List of school emergency procedures  First aid supplies with instruction card  1 red and 1 white cloth to tie on the door knob. These signal information to help search and rescue teams assess the situation. Red = injury or problem in the room. Whit = All clear.  Student activities (such as playing cards, checkers, inflatable ball)
