Dear Charles Sumner Students and Families,

I hope that you have enjoyed your summer and that you are excited to return to school!

Students will return on Wednesday, September 6th. We have been busy this summer preparing for the upcoming school year including a few changes to our staff that I would like you to be aware of.

Leaving us this year through retirement or transfers are Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Connel, Mrs. Yanni, Mrs. Dennebaum, and Mr. Wilkins. We wish them best of luck in their new endeavors!

1. In 5th Grade Mrs. Cathy Schoen has moved to third grade replacing Mrs. Dennebaum & Ms. Andrea Lynch will be moving up to 5th grade this year in her place.

2. Replacing Ms. Lynch in 4th Grade is Ms. Maggie Bryan. Ms. Bryan has had numerous long term and permanent sub positions in our district most recently teaching 5th Grade ELA, 4th Grade Math, Science/Social Studies, and 2nd grade. She is also pursuing her English as a Second Language certificate at the NEIU. Happy to have Ms. Bryan as part of our team!

3. Our new 3rd Grade teacher will be Michelle Dudley! Mrs. Dudley fills the position vacated by Mrs. Yanni. Mrs. Dudley comes to us from the Hazelton Area School District where she worked as a 6th grade Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies teacher for the past 6 years. Mrs. Dudley also holds a Ph.D in General Psychology with an emphasis on cognition and instruction from Grand Canyon University. We are excited to have Mrs. Dudley as part of our staff!

4. In 2nd Grade Mrs. Butler has moved to our Pre-K class in place of Ms. Connel who retired last year. Filling her spot in second grade will be Mrs. Ashlei Kishel. Mrs. Kishel comes from our Monticello School in the Scranton School District where she taught High School Autistic Support for the last three years. Prior to that Mrs. Kishel has also taught elementary emotional support & autistic support at the Graham Academy in Kingston, PA. Mrs. Kishel is excited about teaching second grade and can’t wait to start! We are very happy to have her!

5. In Kindergarten we welcome Mrs. Christina Gibson who replaces Mrs. Morris who retired this past year. Mrs. Gibson comes from St. Paul’s School within the Diocese of Scranton where she taught middle school math. Mrs. Gibson also holds a Master’s Degree from Wilkes University as well as her Bachelor’s Degree from West Chester University with a minor in elementary math.

6. Our new music teacher will be Ms. Alena Schneider. Ms. Schneider will replace Mr. Wilkins. Ms. Schneider comes to us from a Charter School in Long Island, NJ where she taught Elementary Music grades K-5 and was able to bring some of them to Carnegie Hall last year to sing and play their recorders! She also teaches private Piano lessons in her spare time!

I would like to welcome our new hires and wish all our new transfers the best of luck this year! We are excited about building on our successes from last year and welcome you to our family!

Thank You,

Robert L. DeLuca Jr.
