Journalism and Historical Archiving Winter 2015 Internship Announcement (6 mo-1yr)

Founded in 1989, the mission of Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah is to protect and enhance native ecosystems and compatible recreation in the Mt. Pisgah area. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works to conserve the Greater Mt. Pisgah area’s incredible botanical, wildlife and recreational values. The Friends mobilize funding, scientific expertise and volunteer resources to improve the botanical, fish, wildlife and recreational values throughout the greater Mt. Pisgah area.

Our activities include:  Enhancing recreation by improving trails to protect the park’s native beauty.  Nurturing native habitats through scientific restoration projects.  Cultivating a culture of stewardship through community involvement and volunteer service.  Advocating for land protection and landowner collaboration in the greater Mt. Pisgah area.

We are documenting our rich, 25-year history and seek intern assistance to turn the details of key projects into engaging written narratives that we can use to share the story of our work. In addition, this intern will add to our portfolio of volunteer profiles by interviewing some of our hundreds of volunteers and writing short pieces about them that we can share on our website and in our e-newsletters. Another important task will be digitizing our older key documents. Additional related tasks will be added over time as needed.

The intern will work remotely and at our office in downtown Eugene under the supervision of staff and/or lead volunteers. The optimal time for this internship includes at least some time Wednesday mornings at our office at 338 W. 11th in order to meet regularly with a lead volunteer who has been focused on archiving. Additional hours can take place at our office during regular business hours Monday - Thursday or remotely at any time.

Interns are expected to:  Be detail oriented.  Maintain a regular work schedule to complete target tasks and hours as agreed upon.  Communicate clearly, including asking questions and discussing problems.  Complete or make progress on priority tasks as assigned.  Log all hours spent working on the internship, including office and other hours. Conscientious interns who communicate regularly and fulfill their duties responsibly will gain valuable work experience in this field and can expect to receive a positive recommendation from the Volunteer Coordinator.

To sign up, fill in the form on the second page and email to Sarah Mazze at [email protected] or call the FBP office at 541-344-8350. NAME: EMAIL: PHONE: ADDRESS: ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT: TERM(S) FOR THIS INTERNSHIP: Your goals for the internship:
