Main Draw & Finals: 22 - 23 August and tentative time of semi-final and final matches. Main Draw: Double elimination with 16 Participating teams.
PRIZE MONEY: USD$ 30,000.- (Challenger) prize money to be paid cash in dollars by the organiser, without the deductions, to main draw teams as per the following breakdown & upon conclusion of the event:

*No points toward the 2008 Olympic Qualification season will be attributed.
TRANSPORTATION: Players are responsible for their own international and domestic airfare and for any airport taxes or visa expenses. Players are requested to apply early enough for their entry visas, whenever needed.
All main draw players (16 Teams) will be given 500 USD by the promoter for their Airfare. For the Teams that reach the semi Finals and Finals (4 Teams) an extra 500 USD will be given towards their Airfare.
The organiser will arrange and be responsible for all local transportation for all participants, FIVB Delegates and referees, including transportation between the nearest international airport and the site, and when needed, between the official hotel(s) and the venue of any technical and official hospitality or social functions.
BOARD & LODGING: The promoter will cover the board & lodging costs of all the Main Draw teams (16 Teams) taking part in the tournament in double rooms in Porto Marina Resort & Spa .
All players are however personally responsible for all and any extras at the hotel such as mini-bar, phone calls, laundry, etc that must be paid at checkout.
The promoter will bear the costs for one (1) room from two (2) days before the start of the event to one (1) day after the event, including meals, for 1 FIVB Delegate. The hotel will be Porto Marina Resort & Spa.

PRELIMINARY INQUIRY Players must attend the Preliminary Inquiry and present their uniforms and official & TECHNICAL MEETING: forms (players' commitment, health certificate, Prize Money) during such inquiry. Players must attend the Technical Meeting. Draws will be made, if it will be needed for the teams having a tie in their seeding, during the meeting; seeding and detailed information on the competition will be distributed to players during the meeting.
UNIFORMS: Uniforms will be checked during the Preliminary Inquiry. Players of the same team must wear the same colour and style of shorts. The display of players' sponsors’ logos on shorts and accessories is free as long as it complies with FIVB advertising regulations.
Organizers will not provide playing tank tops or tops for the main draw athletes ENTRY (FIVB WEBSITE) The confirmed teams’ entry lists as well as useful information related to the event are enclosed to this Event’s Regulations and available on the FIVB website (2008 Handbook, Chapter 8). Entry Points are the sum of individual ranking points based on the best 4 out of the last 5 FIVB World Championships, Grand Slam, Open, Challenger and Satellite and participations within the last 365 days. Teams that compete in a Challenger event that are ranked in the top 24 men’s teams or the top 16 women’s teams (as per the entry deadline -30 days before the start of the event) will not have their entry points (best 4 of last 5 tournaments) affected by participating in such a Challenger event. By definition, this regulation can only affect wild card teams and/or host country teams. The confirmed entry list will indicate with a symbol teams that will not have their entry points affected by this event (host and wild card teams ranked in top 24 men’s teams or top 16 women’s teams). The points from a Challenger may count if it is a benefit for the team to calculate with these points. Teams that compete in a Satellite event that are ranked in the top 48 men’s teams or the top 32 women’s teams (as per the entry deadline -30 days before the start of the event) will not have their entry points (best 4 of last 5 tournaments) affected by participating in such a Satellite event. By definition, this regulation can only affect wild card teams and/or host country teams. The confirmed entry list will indicate with a symbol teams that will not have their entry points affected by this event (host and wild card teams ranked in top 48 men’s teams or top 32 women’s teams). The points from a Satellite may count if it is a benefit for the team to calculate with these points.
RULES OF THE GAME Playing system & OFFICIAL BALL: - Rally Point System 2 out of 3 sets as follows: a) First and second sets - 21 Points - switch every 7 points - one technical time-out of 30" at third court switch (sum of 21 points) - one time-out of 30" per team/set
b) Third eventual set - 15 points - switch every 5 points - one time-out per team
All sets win by 2 points Intervals between sets to be of 1 minute Official Ball: MIKASA VLS-200 (67 cm +1/-1)
During the 2007 season, the new wording for Rule 15 “PLAYER AT THE NET” will be fully implemented after the approval of the 2006 World Congress in Japan.
The FIVB Official Beach Volleyball Rules approved by the FIVB Board of Administration are included in the Beach Volleyball Referee Guidelines and posted on the FIVB Web site at http://www.fivb.org/Beach

FORFEIT: Each NF is responsible for informing immediately both the FIVB and organisers in case of a last minute forfeit of an enrolled team.
SEEDING Seeding Regulations: In accordance with the FIVB regulations
COACHING Coaching: National Federations can designate one coach per team who must be accredited by the FIVB minimum 30 days before the event concerned or at the latest on the occasion of the Preliminary Inquiry of the event concerned; and Promoters to give accreditation that allows coaches to be seated in a designated area on the centre court. On the outside courts, coaches must stay within a designated area decided by FIVB Technical Supervisor. A mixed zone should be foresee (e.g. tent, secured area etc…) where coaches can meet their athletes
MEDICAL CONTROLS The FIVB reserves the right perform random medical controls, as per FIVB rules and regulations.
PLAYERS’ ELIGIBILITY Only players who have properly registered with the FIVB through their respective NF and have sent in due time (1 copy) the Players’ Agreement duly signed by all parties, will be considered eligible to take part in any 2008 FIVB International events such as Challenger, Satellite, Exhibition, and Youth and Junior World Championships. http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Forms/Athletes/2008_C_S_JR_Pla yer_Agreement.doc.rtf
INSURANCE It is mandatory that all athletes have their own liability and medical insurance. The FIVB will not be held responsible for any medical expenses incurred while competing in a tournament.
WITHDRAWAL AND SANCTIONS Withdrawal and/or disbanding of teams/athletes need to follow the below criteria: a) Athletes who fail to attend the Preliminary Inquiry and the Technical Meeting of the Qualification Tournament will be exempted from any fine only if the concerned National Federation provides to the FIVB via fax and email a proof of “force majeure” or medical certificate (using the appropriate form) related to the withdrawal and/or disbanding of teams/athlete entered in the Qualification Tournament. The National Federation needs to communicate the withdrawal of its team(s) to the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne between -13 days and no later than 5 pm (Swiss time) on Friday preceding the event without providing any medical certificate or proof of “force majeure”. Starting from 5 pm (Swiss time) on Friday preceding the event, the National Federation will need to communicate directly (by using the appropriate form and medical certificate) to the Technical Supervisor assigned to the concerned event copying the FIVB (at [email protected] or fax +41 345 3548) until – 1 minute (e.g. 12.59pm) of the day of the Country Quota Play Off meeting to withdraw without a penalty. Withdrawals due to “force majeure” are subjected to FIVB approval, a written notification is needed to justify such a case. Should a Qualification player withdraw after the above deadline without providing in a medical certificate or a satisfactory proof of “force majeure” a fine of USD 50 will be applied by the FIVB. The FIVB Technical Supervisor is requested to notify immediately the FIVB Beach Volleyball Department. The concerned player must pay the fine to the FIVB either before arriving at his/her next event, or on-site to the FIVB Technical Supervisor of his/her next event and before the Technical Meeting concerned (i.e. Qualification Tournament or Main Draw depending on which event player is participating first). The player concerned will only be accepted by the FIVB to play in his/her next event if the amount due is received and officially acknowledged by the FIVB (in advance) or the FIVB Technical Supervisor (on-site) before the start of the event.

The concerned player must pay the fine to the FIVB either before arriving at his/her next event, or on-site to the FIVB Technical Supervisor of his/her next event and before the Technical Meeting concerned (i.e. Qualification Tournament or Main Draw depending on which event player is participating first). The player concerned will only be accepted by the FIVB to play in his/her next event if the amount due is received and officially acknowledged by the FIVB (in advance) or the FIVB Technical Supervisor (on-site) before the start of that event, otherwise the player will not eligible to play. In any case, athletes withdrawing either with a medical certificate or “force majeure”, are not allowed to participate any Beach Volleyball (and if required any Volleyball) events at any level until the end of the week of the concerned events.
Athletes who have not communicated their travel itineraries to the organizers and who arrive late for the Technical Meeting (i.e after the seeding is made) will be excluded from the event by the FIVB Technical Supervisor for "no show" or fined.
No changes between the teams enrolled in the Qualification and Main Draw Tournaments will be made after the beginning of the Technical Meeting of the Qualification Tournament.
The FIVB Web site will be updated after every withdrawal and substitution of players approved by the FIVB once the confirmed list issued. For further details please refer to Chapter 8 and 10 of the 2008 Handbook.
