Harlem Renaissance Poetry Presentation
Presentations will take place on: ______
As we study the Harlem Renaissance, you will be analyzing poetry and gathering information about the authors and artists of this vibrant cultural movement. With a partner you will create a presentation to teach the class about your poem, the author, and the connections between the poetry, music, and art of The Harlem Renaissance.
FIRST – Choose a poet. You will sign up for a poet from a provided list and then research to find a poem by that poet. No two pairs may analyze the same poem
SECOND – Analyze. With your partner analyze your selected poem by using the TP- CASTT method.
THIRD – Research. Find out information about the author’s life and work. Look for autobiographical facts, info on their career, and critiques/reviews of their work. Be sure to record ALL bibliographic information for every source. A works cited page in MLA format is required!
FOURTH – Connect. Continue your research to find a painting or song from the Harlem Renaissance that relates thematically to your poem.
FIFTH – Prepare a Prezi or PowerPoint presentation. You are required to make a 5-minute presentation on your poem, author, and song or painting. The presentation must include: Poem – Include the text of your poem with the author’s name. 5 points Analysis of poem – Include the TP-CASTT analysis of your selected poem. 40 points Biographical facts – include where the author grew up, family life, education, how they “got started”, etc. How did the author fit into the period overall?
