NJCAA REGION 16 SPORT CODES Baseball – Division I

A. Selection of chair: The host of the Region tournament serves as chair. B. All Region XVI teams must play a four-game series in a four-day span (weather permitting) consisting of a 1-7 inning and 1-9 inning game on each scheduled date. C. Selection of Coach of the Year: The Region winner is Coach of the Year. D. Selection of Region competition site: The host is determined by blind draw. Tournament site will alternate on each side of the state. If a team does not host, the following year institution will host. E. Award Policy: First place team award. Thirty individual medals/awards to first place team. Twelve individual plaques for All Region team. F. All Region selections: Region XVI statistics will be used in determination. Coaches may nominate any number of players desired. The selection takes place the evening prior to the start date of the region tournament. All statistics will be utilized for All-District and All-American nomination. 4 infielders, 3 outfielders, 1 catcher, a DH, and three pitchers are chosen. Players are ranked 1-12. Ties must be voted upon. All credentials, as determined by the NJCAA, must be presented to be eligible. G. All American nominations: All of the Region selections are nominated. H. Code of Conduct: As appears in the NJCAA Handbook. I. Regional Tournament: a. Seeding is based on Region XVI total wins. Games played through the Sunday the week of the regional will be counted towards regional seeding. The host institution chairs the meeting. i. Seeding is based on division I region record. Tie breakers – head to head competition between tied schools, record against the next highest seed team not in the tiebreaker, record against the next highest seed team. If record against all Region XVI teams are exhausted – record against all division I opponents outside region, coin toss. b. Officials: The host institution uses their assignor unless the contract allows flexibility to sue another assignor. Responsibility for securing officials belongs to host institution. c. Type of play: Double elimination tournament. In the event the Region XVI tournament takes two games to determine a champion, the home team for game one will be the visitor for game two. d. Site selection: Refer to D above. e. Type of ball: Regional coaches vote by simple majority. Each institution responsible for providing one dozen balls. f. Pre-tournament practice: The host institution sets up practice schedule if possible. g. Filming of opponent games: Not permissible. h. Scouting information to outside institutions: Scouting information to non-region institutions is discouraged. i. Financial arrangements: Host institution responsible for all expenses with the exception of umpire fees, which are pro-rated. Host institution is to provide a program and housing for Region Director. j. When the Regional is held at a facility without lights all games will be seven inning ballgames, except for the championship games. k. When the Regional is held at a facility with lights all games will be nine innings. l. Gate: Admission fee must be pre-approved by the Regional Director. A pass list will be provided to the host school one week prior to the tournament to include administrators, spouses, scouts, recruiters, and former regional personnel.
