Dear Santa Clara Parent S Nursery School Families

July 8, 2017 Dear Santa Clara Parent’s Nursery School Families, Santa Clara Parent’s Nursery School is a parent participation school. Participating parents are considered by law part of our staff. Both our licensing agency and the Health Department require that volunteers (participating parents) have the following training. The Healthy Schools Act went into effect last July 2016! It requires all state licensed schools to have our staff (teachers and volunteer parents) trained on pesticide use. This includes any cleaners that we would use to clean and disinfect the bathrooms, kitchen, toys and any other part of the school to keep it clean. Please use the link below and select the “Basic” course - it is a one hour training online that you can take at your own convenience. At the end of training we need each participating parent to print out the certificate to prove that you took the training. This is important! We need to have a copy in your file at school. This needs to be completed before school starts! http://apps.cdpr.ca.gov/schoolipm/training/ Required Healthy Schools Act Training

What is the new HSA training requirement? Beginning July 1, 2016 school IPM coordinators and anyone who may apply a pesticide at a school or child care center must take a DPR-approved training course before making a pesticide application.

Who needs to take an HSA training course? Anyone using a pesticide, including licensed pesticide applicators, at a school or child care center needs to take an HSA training course. This includes, but is not limited to disinfecting wipes, sanitizers, and weed-killers.

How often must HSA training be completed? o School district staff, child care center staff, and any other unlicensed individuals using pesticides at a school or child care center must take a training course each year. o Licensed pesticide applicators must take a training course once during each renewal period.

Thank you for understanding, being a part of this wonderful community and keeping our children healthy and safe!
