OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Terri Slack, Site Counsel for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Y-12 Site Office (YSO), has been named “NNSA Attorney of the Year.”

Slack received the award during a ceremony held at the Savannah River Site this week as part of the annual NNSA Office of General Counsel conference. The award was presented by Bruce Diamond, NNSA General Counsel.

“Terri has been a terrific asset to Y-12 and to NNSA as a whole,” said Diamond. “She is often sought out by other NNSA attorneys for advice on a variety of subjects. She has done just an outstanding job for an extended period of time and richly deserves this recognition.”

Dan Hoag, Acting Manager of the Y-12 Site Office, said, “Terri is a key member of the YSO Leadership Team and has made many contributions to the success of the Site Office mission. Slack is the sole legal advisor for the Site Office, and her legal expertise cross-cuts multiple disciplines and activities. I am very pleased she has received this special recognition.”

Slack is responsible for providing legal counsel for YSO and oversees legal activities at the Y-12 National Security Complex. She joined the YSO staff in 2005. She has been an employee of the U.S. Department of Energy for more than 26 years, previously serving as counsel with the Oak Ridge Office (ORO) Chief Counsel’s Office. In her previous position, Slack served as counsel to the ORO Office of Nuclear Fuel Supply and more recently was responsible for legal matters involving the United States Enrichment Corporation at the Paducah and Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plants.

Slack received a bachelor’s degree in secondary education in 1980 and a doctor of jurisprudence in 1983, both from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She and her husband, Jeff, have three children and live in Knoxville.
