Job Title: A Rocha International (ARI) Operations Manager Grade: Manager Locations: UK, although other locations will be considered (Preference: Oxford, UK) Reporting to: Director of Operations (based in Geneva, Switzerland) Key contacts: ARI Management Team International Coordinator Chairs and National Directors of A Rocha National Organisations (ARNOs) ARNO staff Purpose of position: The Operations Manager is a member of the Operations Directorate. Within the overarching vision of the organisation, this person will support the Director of Operations in the overall management of the Operations Directorate, with a specific emphasis on fundraising, strategic planning and resources, monitoring, evaluation and learning within the national organisations and at the international level.
Key responsibilities: The Operations Manager is responsible for the following activities, undertaken under the direction of the Director of Operations and in close liaison with relevant staff within ARI: 1. Develop and coordinate effective operations strategies at national and international levels
2. Manage planning, monitoring and evaluation systems for the purposes of organisational learning, accountability, and programme and policy improvement
3. Support good working relationships with ARNOs by: Ensuring good communication between ARI and ARNOs Monitoring ARNOs for compliance with ARI minimum standards and ARI’s intervention where minimum standards are not met within ARNOs 4. Identify funding opportunities (new and existing) and apply to donors to fund ARNO projects and core costs, as well as providing support to ARNOs in their funding applications 5. Share ‘best practice’ examples within the A Rocha family 6. Support coordination of cooperation between ARNOs 7. Facilitate joint ARNO and ARI/ARNO developments and collaborative partnerships for enhanced project management 8. Support the development of new ARNOs, Associated Projects and Initiatives
Other: 1. Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Operations
2. Some occasional travel will be required
Outcomes required: 1. Strengthen monitoring systems for the purposes of organisational learning, programme and policy improvement and accountability 2. Increase financial sustainability with successful fundraising 3. Ensure ‘best practice’ is identified and shared with the A Rocha family 4. Ensure appropriate on-going monitoring of implementation of the Operations strategy 5. Provide strategic guidance and high quality analysis to shape ARI’s work and maximise ARI’s effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability 6. Ensure receipt of regular, consistent and timely reports from ARNOs 7. Work with others to ensure that ARNOs are adequately resourced 8. Support the growth of the A Rocha family with the establishment of new A Rocha Initiatives, Associated Projects and ARNOs
Person specification
Essential: Evidence of substantial progressive management and leadership experience Excellent administrative skills, including prioritising tasks Strong demonstrable previous experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation - including use of planning tools such as logical framework analysis Post-graduate degree in a subject related to conservation or sustainable development or having demonstrable equivalent relevant experience (this could include, for example, public policy, law or environmental economics) Evidence of ability to fundraise and identification of relevant funding streams Training and presentation skills Demonstrated enthusiasm and interest in capacity building/mentoring of teams Adaptive management and intercultural communication skills; experience with managing cultural differences; and ability to work in multi-cultural environments Excellent communication and presentation skills in writing, in person and online Competent IT skills: word processing, spreadsheets and email (including Excel, Word or Open Office) Flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines Proven ability to work under own initiative as well as strategic thinking ability Written and spoken fluency in English In sympathy with the Christian ethos and values of ARI
Desirable: Ability to speak languages other than English (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, etc.) Experience of working with volunteers and committees Understanding of or experience with web content management systems Budgetary control and financial management skills Postgraduate qualification in project and programme management or monitoring and evaluation in the non-profit sector
Funding for this post is guaranteed for two years.
