Department: Skylight Oxford

Reporting to: Arts Coordinator

Aim  Deliver a range of training and guidance to homeless and vulnerable people in order to encourage life long learning.

Circumstances

 A satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for this role.  This is a part time role (2-6 hours per week)

Salary  £22.25 per hour

Principle Accountabilities JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Recruitment and assessment

 Recruit and select learners on the basis of need  Undertake initial, formative and summative assessment of learners, and respond accordingly  Create and administer pre-post entry assessments which inform the development of training & learning plans taking into account individual needs, styles and interests.

2. Teaching and learning support

 Teach and support learning in accordance with best practice for the client group  Plan, reflect and review each learner’s programme on a regular basis  Prepare and use suitable and good quality learning materials  Prepare learning documentation in accordance with standard Crisis practice  Establish and maintain standards of conduct with and for the learners  Support the learners in receiving and upholding their entitlements  Adhere to departmental policies when dealing with aggressive or challenging behaviour  Ensure all learning activity aids the progression of individuals and future development plans drawn up  To implement blended learning integrating online and classroom teaching if required

3. Certification and quality assurance

 Assess the learners’ progress and attainment against the standards set for the programme  Make and keep appropriate assessment records  Liaise as required with internal moderators and other representatives of awarding bodies  Maintain and provide required records for accountability purposes  Source and maintain accreditation procedures and associated paperwork  Fulfil accreditation requirements and administer and assess examinations

4. Contribution to the team and organisation

 Develop and share teaching and learning materials with the team  Participate in professional development activities as required.  Promote well-being and development of the organisation internally and externally  Work within the organisation’s policies and procedures including Equal Opportunities  Support and manage volunteers as required within the classes

5. General JOB DESCRIPTION

 Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis Develop and share teaching and learning materials with the team and with other Skylight centres  Participate in professional development activities  Promote well-being and development of the organisation internally and externally  Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people  Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act  Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job

Person Specification

Essential

1. Hold or be working towards practical teaching qualifications i.e. PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent including Degree or equivalent in specialism preferably although relevant, extensive experience in a craft, for instance, would be acceptable 2. Working with minimal support with challenging behaviour and clients with complex needs 3. Delivering programmes 4. Engaging vulnerable clients in relevant educational, employment and training programmes. 5. Preparation of initial, formative and summative assessments, programme design and the development teaching and learning materials. 6. Sourcing materials 7. Peripatetic teaching 8. A capacity both to work on your own, in teams and a willingness to reflect upon and develop own practice. 9. A passion for learning and enjoyment of creativity and innovation. 10. A willingness to undertake training as required 11. Multi disciplined skills in one or more of the following (please state which one’s)  Creative Writing  Music (eg. Singing; song writing; production etc.) 12. Commitment to Crisis’s purpose and values including equality and social inclusion

Desirable

13. Ability in playing a musical instrument for this role (ie guitar and / or other portable instrument) is highly desirable. Own equipment is desirable. Crisis will provide reimbursements for wear and tear, as well as providing consumable resources where appropriate
