Job Description
Job Title: Political Advisor
Responsible to:
Introduction The primary purpose of the political advisor’s role is to provide political support to Sinn Féin party structures, the Sinn Féin Assembly operation, and to designated constituencies.
Political Advisors are expected to be familiar with party policy and objectives and to carry out their role with particular reference to a work programme agreed with the Assembly Political Manager.
Political Advisors will work in conjunction with the Assembly team, his/her local Constituency organisation, Policy Advisory Groups, Publicity and other Party personnel as required.
The allocation of time to specific tasks will be agreed with the Political Manager in consultation with the Political Advisor, the party leadership in the constituency within which they work, and with other party structures.
Main Duties To contribute to the party’s collective political engagement in the Assembly and the promotion of the party’s All-Ireland political agenda To work in conjunction with the Policy Advisory Groups, Publicity Department, the all-Ireland Political Co-ordinator and other party personnel as required. To assist in the political development and co-ordination of a designated constituency. To assist, as part of a team, in the delivery of party constituency services and to the completion of other political tasks. To assist in the development of the public profile of the party, particularly at constituency level and including that of designated MLAs. To provide political support in a designated constituency and to designated MLAs To provide agreed administrative support to a constituency operation and to designated MLAs. To represent the party, the constituency organisation and/or designated MLAs, as agreed, in engagements with the community, government agencies and statutory bodies. To pursue outreach with statutory and civic organisations. To prepare briefing papers on constituency issues. To assist in preparing briefing papers for debates, speaking engagements and meetings. To assist, where required, in party building activities, including recruitment, capacity building and the development of party policy. To undertake agreed training in order to develop his/her capacity to fulfil his/her brief. To carry out other duties as directed by and in agreement with the Assembly Political Manager and the party’s local constituency leadership.
This Job Description is not intended as a comprehensive list of the duties of the Political Advisor, but as an indication of the main areas of responsibility.
1 Political Advisors will be expected to have a good working knowledge of administrative work and demonstrate a good working knowledge of Information Technology.
