Honor’s Geometry

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence.” ~Abigail Adams

This document provides information to help you succeed by making you aware of rules and policies of the class. Website: BigIdeasMath.com

Materials Needed:

1. Math Binder, divided into 4 sections 2. PENCIL and ERASER 3. Textbook or Chromebook 4. Spiral Notebook of ¼inch graph paper 5. And a GOOD ATTITUDE

Math Binder: Due ______Students are required to have a math binder. This binder should be just for GEOMETRY. A three ring binder divided into sections labeled: NOTES/CLASS PROBLEMS, HOMEWORK, THEOREMS/POSTULATES and ASSESSMENTS.

The above items should be with you each day for class! Be Prepared to Learn!!!

Homework Policy:

Homework is given nightly. Homework will not be included in the student’s grade, but is a required and crucial part of the course. The expectation is that students complete their homework daily as a practice tool, whether it is graded or not. Questions regarding homework will be addressed during class time with your team members and the teacher. It is important that students take the initiative and ask if they have questions on any homework problems. Remember, homework is a practice tool used to improve your skill level in mathematics. PRACTICE makes PERMANENT! *It is imperative that the student check their answers to homework which will be provided in class and online!

All work should be neat, legible, complete (SHOWING ALL WORK!) and done in pencil. Homework will need to be turned in if choosing to retake a chapter test. All work must be shown and corrections made indicating that the work has been checked on the website.

If you are absent from school, you are responsible to complete homework. Homework assignments can be found on the class website and skyward.

Individual Test/Team Policy:

You have 1 week to make up a missing Individual Test/Quiz or it will become a zero. Tests can be made up after school or during a study hall.

Grading:

The student’s grade for this course is based on a point system consisting of graded classwork and tests. Check your grade frequently on skyward so you always know your grade. There should be no surprises!

Team Work:

This class does include a significant amount of group collaboration. Students will be working with members of your class in teams to understand and apply the concepts. You will be asked to work with many different classmates throughout the year; you will work together on Explorations, make conjectures, construct viable arguments and critique reasoning of others. The expectation is that you will share ideas with others, as well as listen to other student’s ideas.

Mastery in Mathematics Students do have the option to have a second opportunity on graded assignments. For whatever reason that they did not score well on the first try, they can redo the assignment to try to attain a higher score. The new score is the one that will go in skyward, regardless of which one is higher.

~Graded classwork assignments – students may redo and turn in any graded assignment to try to do better. The redone assignment must be turned in within 3 days of the date that the original assignment was due. ~Quizzes – students may redo a quiz by taking a version 2 of the quiz. It will first be required that the student make corrections on a separate sheet of paper and go over those corrections with me. This can be done before or after school. The retake for the quiz can then be scheduled for after school or during a study hall. ~Individual Chapter Tests – the following criteria must be met for a student to be eligible to take a version 2 of the chapter test:  All homework for that chapter must be COMPLETED and corrected.  All corrections for the test must be made on a separate sheet of paper.  Student must set up a time to go over the corrections to see that they better understand the material. This should be done before or after school.  Student needs to schedule a time with me to retake the test either after school or during a study hall.

Behavior Issues:

 Students are expected to show appropriate classroom behavior at all times.  Talking should be limited to times that it is allowed.  Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.  Respect for other students, teachers, and other people’s property will be expected from everyone.  Cell phones are not allowed in class, just as they are not allowed in school. If a student is found with a cell phone, the school policy will be implemented.  Students are not permitted to go to their lockers during class; please bring everything you need to class.

Other Information:

 After school help is available most afternoons until 2:50pm; please schedule with me ahead of time, in case of a conflict.  I am also available before school, beginning at 7am, several days a week; please schedule with me ahead of time.  If you have any questions or concerns, please either call (610)779- 3320 ext.3304 or email at [email protected] .

Prepare yourself for a successful year in Geometry and with hard work, you will see the results.
