In the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and 25 thirtytwo, New Church was established on Brockington Farm in 26 Darlington County by its first pastor, Reverend William 27 Brockington. New Church, later named Mount Carmel Methodist 28 Church (a house of worship for both white Methodists and slaves), 29 was the first Methodist Church in this area. As white and black 30 Methodists moved out, black Baptists began to move into the 31 Mount Carmel area and conduct worship services. As a result, 32 Mount Carmel was organized as a Baptist church in 1868. 33 Reverend Darren Prince Dixon follows a long tradition of strong 34 and active Mount Carmel undershepherds who have built the 35 church from the ground up; and 36 37 Whereas, born and raised in Marlboro County, Reverend Dixon is 38 the youngest offspring of Earl and Belinda Dixon and the grandson 39 of Leroy and Julia Walls and the late Leery and Virginia Dixon. 40 Reverend Dixon has three brothers (Shawn, Duane, and Michael) 41 and one sister (Brittany). On February 11, 1994, at the tender age 42 of eleven, Darren Prince Dixon received his license to preach the

He is a member 2 of Joshua Baptist Church of Dalzell; and 3 4 Whereas, he received his early education in the Marlboro County 5 school system, graduating with honors. In further preparation for 6 his life’s work, Darren Prince Dixon earned a bachelor’s degree in 7 history from Sumter’s Morris College, once again graduating with 8 honors. He then continued his education at the Morehouse School 9 of Religion on the campus of the Interdenominational Theological 10 Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed a master of divinity 11 with a double concentration in psychology of religion and history. 12 In addition, he earned a master’s degree in theology at Duke 13 University, his field being church history. Reverend Dixon also 14 received a doctorate in theology from the prestigious Duke 15 University School of Divinity. His concentration is 16 interdisciplinary and includes history, theology, and psychology of 17 religion; and 18 19 Whereas, although Reverend Dixon is immensely accomplished 20 and believes in education, he holds that fulfilling the will of God is 21 paramount and everything else is secondary; and 22 23 Whereas, he delivered his first sermon as pastor of Mount Carmel 24 Baptist Church on the morning of September 20, 2015, teaching 25 from Exodus 14:1014 and I Corinthians 2:9 on the topic “A 26 Dawning of a Brand New Day.” The installation of Reverend 27 Dixon marks the beginning of a momentous new chapter in the life 28 of this noble church, and its members indeed may look forward to 29 a future of meaningful fellowship under his leadership; and 30 31 Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for his faithful 32 spiritual nourishment of the people of South Carolina, takes great 33 pleasure in wishing Reverend Dixon God’s best as he officially 34 inaugurates his ministry at Mount Carmel and as he continues to 35 run the race the Lord has set before him. Now, therefore, 36 37 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 38 39 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 40 by this resolution, congratulate Reverend Darren Prince Dixon, 41 Th.D., upon his installation as pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist 42 Church of Timmonsville on January 24, 2016, and wish him God’s 43 richest blessings as he continues to serve the Lord.
