CAPE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND

SEMESTER 2

Objective: During the school year, students will continue technical development on their instrument. Students will demonstrate knowledge of music as it relates to: rhythm reading, tone quality, balance/blend, intonation, articulation and expression. Students will also participate in 3 concerts.

Expectations: Concert Band students who are returning to the cape central band program are familiar with general expectations within the classroom. students are asked to arrive to class on time and be prepared (music & materials).

Grading: Performance Evaluations (tests)/ Concerts 70% Daily Effort, Attitude, Preparation (participation) 30%

*extra credit can be earned by participation in pep band and solo/ensemble contest

Text: Our text for concert band will be provided by the directors to use for the semester. At the conclusion of the semester, please return any/all borrowed equipment to the directors in reasonable condition.

Instruments: Your instrument can be stored in the instrument storage lockers. it is your responsibility to choose/secure a locker for your needs. The cape central band is not responsible for personal property that is lost/stolen. If you have been renting a school instrument and have not paid $40 please bring it ASAP and place in the dropbox in the front of the band room or give it to Mr. Keys. Checks may be payable to: Cape Central Band. Thank you.

Large Ensemble Contest: Students are required to attend our performance at state contest. This performance will take place on the River Campus of SEMO University at Bedell Performance hall. The band will receive a rating from adjudicators based on their prepared performance and sight reading. Parents and friends are welcome to attend (free admission).

Solo/Small Ensemble Contest: Students in concert band are eligible to compete in the solo/ensemble contest. This event is not a requirement. If a student is interested in participating in this contest, they must see a director for details.

March 2 - Pre-contest concert - Kinder Hall - 7PM March 15 - State Contest Concert - SEMO River Campus - TBA March 17 - Solo/Ensemble Contest - CHS - TBA May 9 - Spring Concert - Kinder Hall - 7PM

*FOR ALL CONCERTS, STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM IN FORMAL ATTIRE (ALL BLACK).
