MINUTES

Wed. Dec. 11, 2013, 11 a.m.

11-Noon-- Diversity Focus training on the Value of Diversity! Speaker: Chad Simmons (Introductions). Great turnout even with inclement weather! 23 in attendance: Amber Quartier, Amy Doerrfeld, Greg Graver, Heather Weers, Jeanette Shoop, Jenny Armstrong, Kaitlin and Lisa Heitz, Karmen Jamison, LaVonne and Phil Owen, Linda Fanton, Lori Reynolds, MaryAnn Hindman, Sarah Wickham, Sheila Ferrell, Becky DirksHaugstad, Bruce Williams, Kim Noe, Dennis Murphy, Katey Anderson, David Kleist and Chad Simmons. Chad wants to partner with the coalition to assist in meeting our community’s diversity needs. See attached PowerPoint.

Holiday Dinner

1. Approval of November’s Coalition minutes and Executive minutes— Lori Reynolds motioned to approve, Phil Owen seconded, motion approved by all.

2. CADCA Conference Feb. 4-6- approval of moving $1000 from carryover to cover unbudgeted registration fees. Announce who is going—Karmen Jamison motioned to approve, Lori Reynolds seconded, motion approved by all.

3. See updates- as time permits, discuss!

 TIPS Training- 10 more trained recently for on-premise (bars and restaurants)

 SPF SIG Training- 3 coalition members and Amber Quartier attended.

 Holiday events

i. Cookie walk coming up this weekend!

ii. Christmas City table set up—did not occur due to poor weather conditions iii. Anamosa Holiday Magic on Main Gingerbread face-off—held here at Coalition office, big success! About 50 people attended

 From Committees:

o Policy- Dennis Murphy shared progress on ordering Text2Tell signage for parks

o Outreach/Sustainability-

. Jeannette Shoop shared success with her and Jennifer Husmann meeting Charlie Becker—committed to donate first $1,000 to endowment fund.

. Letter writing campaign: So far about $1,200 has been donated.

. Orientation coffee event: several current coalition members attended and updated on progress made through coalition efforts and given new materials to include in the orientation binder.

o Marketing/Special Events-

. Work on new SPF SIG adult campaign- Members given new adult binge drinking IDPH media campaign poster (see attached). Image used with to educate on December’s National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month.

. Marijuana big event- Coaltion looking into having Dr. Kevin Sabet come to Jones County in Spring of 2014 to speak on SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana). www.learnaboutsam.org

. Underage Drinking Town Hall- SAMSHA funding to hold a town hall in addressing underage drinking in Jones County may be provided for the Spring of 2014.

o Other hot topics/other sharing?

. Amy Doerrfeld shared about youth events: Mini grant given to hold “Cookies and Conversations” event at Middle Schools in Jones County where kids decorate cookies while being engaged in roundtable discussion.

 Tuesday, Dec 17th at Midland Middle School cafeteria from 3/3:30-5PM

 Friday, Dec 20th at Anamosa Middle School from 3:15-4:30PM
