Northside Middle School Choir Expectations

Rehearsal Expectations 1. Bring class materials everyday: pencils, notebook and black binder (binder may be kept in the classroom). 2. Be respectful of other choir members, the classroom, and Ms. Finegan. 3. Be attentive and responsive during rehearsals. 4. Adhere to policies as outlined in the Northside Middle School Student Handbook.

Grading and Assessment Students will accrue points throughout the grading period. Grades will be based on the following assessments: 1. Northside Concert/Dress Rehearsal Attendance (40% of grade) 2. “Song of the Day” Journals (25% of grade) 3. Theory Work/Class work/Singing and written tests (25% of grade) 4. North High School Choir Concert Attendance (10% of grade)

Private Lessons Students are strongly encouraged to take private vocal lessons. This individual attention will help increase musicality and vocal skill. A list of private teachers in the area will be sent home soon.

Concert Attendance/Expectations Since choir is a performing ensemble, a great deal of importance is placed on the attendance and participation at concerts. Concerts are a required part of class so be sure to make note of the concert dates listed on the choir calendar. Report time for students is 45 minutes prior to the performance at the North High School Auditorium.

Examples of Excused Absences . Family emergencies . Personal illness Examples of Unexcused Absences . No transportation to the concert . Babysitting/work conflict . Too much homework, or upcoming project . Conflicts with other activities/clubs/events

Those who miss a concert due to an excused absence will be given the opportunity to make up the concert by singing for Ms. Finegan. Concert Attire Ladies Black or white blouse Black skirt or pants (no miniskirts or jeans) Black shoes (flats or small heels, no flip flops)

Men Black or white collared dress shirt (tucked in) Black dress pants (no jeans) Black belt, black shoes, and black socks

If there is any financial hardship in acquiring the concert attire, please contact Ms. Finegan by September 1st.

High School Concert Attendance All students in choir should attend at least one high school choir performance a semester. Students must hand in a concert program and a paragraph on their favorite piece performed (and why it was their favorite). The following is a list of concerts from North High School.

Columbus North Choirs Oct. 3 Fall Concert 7:30pm @ North High School Auditorium Dec. 12 Winter Concert 7:30pm @ North High School Auditorium Mar. 1-3 Spring Musical (More information coming) April 24 Spring Concert 7:30pm @ North High School Auditorium

If there is any conflict with these dates, please contact Ms. Finegan and an alternative activity will be assigned.

ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Solo and Ensemble is a chance for students to perform in a smaller group or by themselves in order to receive a rating and feedback. This is a strongly encouraged event as it will help students grow as musicians and individuals. More information will be given as the date approaches.
