A RESOLUTION calling upon the Office of Child Protective Services within the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services and the courts of the State of Texas to reunite the children of Kathy and Doug Harless with their loving parents. WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Harless are the loving parents of five children, ages six, seven, nine, fifteen, and eighteen; and WHEREAS, the Harless family has maintained Kentucky as their residence all of their lives; and WHEREAS, the Harless family traveled to Texas for family business purposes; and WHEREAS, the family has experienced several tragedies, including severe injuries suffered by Mrs. Harless when a log truck struck her vehicle, resulting in her hospitalization for major surgical procedures; and WHEREAS, the family faced its greatest tragedy when the Office of Child Protective Services within the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services took Mr. and Mrs. Harless's children into custody, allegedly for a dirty travel trailer, while the family was on business in Texas; and WHEREAS, for over two years the children have been separated from their parents and from one another; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Harless has recovered from the accident and both parents are fully capable of taking care of their children; and

WHEREAS, neither Mr. or Mrs. Harless uses alcohol, drugs, or tobacco products; and WHEREAS, the Harless family has suffered undue grief and has been fighting to get their children back; and WHEREAS, the sanctity of the family unit should be protected; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Service and the courts of Texas should respect the sanctity of the family unit and consider immediate actions to reunite Mr. and Mrs. Harless with their five children. Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall forward a copy of this resolution to the Office of Child Protective Services within the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, the Attorney General of the State of Texas, the District Judge in Tarrant County, and the Governor of the State of Texas.
