We are proud to be working with Academic Year in America (AYA) to bring foreign exchange students to our high school. This gives English- speaking students from other countries a chance to see what America is really like through a fantastic one-school-year experience at Reynolds. We are eager to add foreign athletes, scholars and artists to our student body because we know how much they brings to our community. To bring the world to Reynolds, we need host families open to adding a student (or even two) to their family for one school year. AYA's program allows your family to have direct input about the type of student you think would be the best fit for your family and even provides a local coordinator to help make the process smooth and easy. If you are curious about the process or want to chat about what it would take to make it happen, please contact Courtney Fraley at [email protected].
Please help spread the word about the audition/portfolio review process for students who are either new to Reynolds in 2014 or who are current RJR students who wish to take a course next year in a new arts area (i.e. you have not taken chorus at RJR, but sing in your church choir and wish to audition for a class other than beginning chorus; you take dance at a studio, but have never taken it at RJR; you play the guitar outside of school and want to take it next year).
Auditions and Visual Arts assessments are February 1st and 2nd, depending on discipline. Complete information can be found on the Arts Magnet page of the RJR website: http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/81335. Congratulations to RJR Students of the Week Anne Hayden Wray and Braeden Williams. Anne Hayden was nominated by Ms. Fleming for the pride she takes in everything she does, and thereby leading by example.
Braeden was nominated by Mr. McCarthy for his leadership in the classroom.
Thanks for making RJR great, Anne Hayden and Braeden! The Demon Shop can now take credit cards! We are open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12 to 2 p.m. in the RJR cafeteria (but will be closed during exams). If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Melissa Workman at [email protected].
College Search is a committee of parent volunteers who work one-on- one with RJR seniors and juniors to help with the college planning process. Typically, a volunteer will work with a student for 45 minutes during an elective period to help him/her determine next steps (whatever they may be) and to support the fabulous guidance department by doing the more general hand-holding and question answering. Students leave the appointments with a folder of information, a CFNC account, and an action plan for next steps.
We need your help! If your student is a junior and would benefit from working with a volunteer in this way, please encourage them to sign up for an appointment. The link is here and is on the RJR website under Student Services: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform? hl=en_US&formkey=dEJpNEVCS0VpYXk1OXRjNXU4RE9UMVE6MQ.
It is not too late to join this committee! Contact Karen Morris at [email protected] if you would like to help students in this way. Training is provided and it is a great way to learn about the college search process yourself.
