LINCS/OVAE Learning Disabilities Submitted by Rochelle Kenyon Moderator’s Annual Report: 2010 in Review

Statistics in Brief

Number of subscribers at the beginning of the year: 740 Number of subscribers at the end of the year: 862 Highest number of subscribers during the year: 891 Number of posts for the year: 1,672

Highlights

The total of 891 subscribers is the single largest number in the 7 years that I have been the moderator - and is 155 subscribers more than in 2009.

For 2010, the LD Discussion List had the highest number of total posts than any other list.

Along with an ever-increasing number of single-threads, the amount of new topics and connected topics discussed continues to grow.

Along with discussion, subscribers shine when questions about best practices, resources, placement of students concerns from parents and other similar requests for help and advice are posted. All are answered; sometimes multiple answers are posted from an assortment of subscribers.

Hot topics during this year on the LD Discussion List include: LD and English Language Learners (173 posts), Dyslexia, Reading and the Brain (154 posts), Resources = (136 posts), Research, and Factors in Teaching Adult Reading, Vocabulary, Spelling and Comprehension to Lowest Level Readers = (134 posts), Desperation, LD, Difficulties and Second Opinions = (87), Hard-wired Brains and Rewiring = (44 posts), Ability to Benefit = (42 posts), Teacher Training = (39 posts), and LD and Causes of Illiteracy = (34 posts)
