POLICY:

I. Staffing in the Operating Room

A. Staffing for every procedure requires at least one (1) registered nurse per operating suite. Each procedure also requires a scrub person who may be a Surgical Operating Room Technician or an RN.

B. Weekly staff coverage (excluding weekends) allows the following numbers of OR suites to be started and utilized:

1. Five (5) rooms are to be operational between 0700-1500 Mondays through Fridays 2. Three (3) rooms will be staffed from 1500-1900 Monday through Friday 3. Trauma Call Coverage will enacted between 1500-0700 Monday through Friday and consists of one (1) team with at least (1) RN 4. Open Heart Call Coverage is enacted between 1500-0700 Monday through Friday C. Weekend Coverage provides enough staff personnel for the following OR suites:

1. One (10 room between the hours of 0700-0700 Saturday to Monday morning 2. One (1) room for trauma procedures or other emergencies 3. Open Heart Call team so staff one heart room between the hours of 0700-0700 Saturday to Monday morning

II. Weekend Rotation of Hours

A. On the weekends, the staff who provide in-house coverage during the day (1 complete team to include one RN) 0700-1500 are expected to cover the trauma/ emergency call between 1500-2300. Likewise is true of those individuals covering the 1500-2300 and 2300-0700 shifts. Those persons are expected to cover the call from 2300-0700 and 0700-1500 respectively.

B. Staff is required to arrive at the hospital no more than one-half hour from the time that they have been notified of pending procedures. Any breach of this policy may result in a disciplinary process.
