Its was a huge success and our The village enhancement group is continually planning to enhance different areas around thanks to the shops and business of our neighbouring towns Castlebar and Westport for the community. SCHOOL BUS Route Revised at Aughagower Junction: The VEG members, Monies brought in by the Sale of Work will ensure that the Community Centre of which Schoolchildren and Parents especially are very happy with the new arrangement by CIE we are justly proud, will continue to function. Funding had indeed run perilously low in the interest of safety, for school collection in the morning. Following safety concerns leading up to this month but now all can relax for another year. Gibbons, Séan Mulgrew and Paddy O' Malley. The school bus now travels up the Aughagower road only in the morning, turns at O’Brien’s house and collects the schoolchildren on its way back to the main road with the main stop at a lay-by before the main junction. This prevents children having to cross the main road with the constant traffic. In the evening the bus stops safely along the left side. The group are very grateful to all the people involved who worked together to find a solution to this serious safety concern.

Islandeady Junction: The area on both sides of the junction with the Westport/Castlebar road has also been enhanced. We would like to ask people using this road to PLEASE STAY OFF THE GRASS AREA as sadly the soft verge is being damaged with traffic wheels and it will not be seeded again unfortunately. The group are hoping to enhance the Lay-by at Faheys in the coming years, again the group would like to acknowledge the work that Gerard does in maintaining the hill and grass areas along the road here. Also the RSS men Martin G and Martin C for the work they did in some further clearance in this area, it is hoped to continue with same. The group would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the other people who continue to cut the grass all along the main road during the growing season and indeed all the people who quietly maintain their own areas in the Parish. It is very much appreciated by all road users and makes it a very pleasant place to drive through for both local and visitors alike. The Arch: The outside of the Arch has been re-surfaced with tarmacadam and further plans to enhance this area in conjunction with Iarnroid Eireann will be explored. Three Bridges: Discussions have taken place with the landowners in this area and work has commenced to build a fence linking the three bridges. The plan is to cut the trees to improve the view across the junction. It is planned to enhance the area generally. Plans are also in place to improve the view at O’Malleys corner and other areas with tree- cutting. Derrycooraune: Plans to enhance this corner and also at the Islandeady/Fahy junction and some other areas are being discussed.

Suggestions/ideas may be submitted to any of the following VEG Members: James O’Malley, Gerard Fahey, Breege Carney, EoinO’Malley, Tommy Walshe, Liam Keaveney, Marty Needham, Kathleen Feeney ( RSS Representative) Breege Joyce ( Chairperson). * Contact Information for Islandeady Community Council Monthly Parish Newsletter:
