Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the Long Meadows (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the “big boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s Bullet Lug, Tank-form model that dates to ca 1940 - 1941. This 10kt ROSE Gold filled watch is in excellent to mint ORIGINAL condition, completely original except for the new and high quality deBeer Europa alligator grain band.

Triple- signed, it measures 36mm lug tip to lug tip and 20.5mm in width (22mm with original rose gold winding crown). This works out to be a bit over 1-3/8 inches long by 7/8 of an inch wide, including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 9L caliber manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced prior to auction, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original pink (rose) gold finish, enamel dial is in flawless condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the Longines factory on this very watch. It is perfect. Features a 60 minute outer chapter, raised gold Exploding numerals and hour markers, original gold metal Baton-style hands and a recessed, square, sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer track and sweep original gold seconds hand. Signed LONGINES below the 12 and SWISS at the base of the dial.

The original solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The case is a two-piece design that is 10 Karat Rose Gold filled and in excellent to mint condition, absolutely pristine. What really makes this model is its lugs, more like Bullets and very Art Moderne in design. The original, unmarked, rose gold finished winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I find that the rose gold back lid is free of any engravings or wear (past or present) and is in excellent PLUS shape, stamped 10k Gold Filled. Inside is a clean, fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss, Seventeen 17 Jewels [Grade] 9L, LXW with serial number 6,098,067, dating the watch to ca 1940 – 1941 as per available production records. The inside case is stamped Cased & Timed in the USA by Longines, Wadsworth, 10K Gold Filled with case number below.

This fine watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with a new 15mm men’s length deBeer Europa brown alligator (grain) calf leather band so you are all set. All in all a pristine ORIGINAL shape vintage Tank model watch from one of Switzerland’s very best, one of the nicest Longines watches I have come across in the past year or more.

Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. Founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, this cutting edge company has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm, on par with the finest Swiss firms in terms of both quality and style.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the firm, a less often seen Tank form model in solid stainless steel that dates to ca 1945 -1946. This example was made entirely in Switzerland and is quadruple-signed for Omega, on the dial, case, winding crown and mechanism.

It measures 34mm lug tip to lug tip and 22mm in width (23.8mm with original Omega steel crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches in length by 7/8 of an inch wide, without the Omega signed winding crown. It has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David and its original 17 jewel, manual wind mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its correct status. It features a 60 minute outer track border, black Arabic numerals, original blue steel Baton-style hands and a separate (and slightly recessed) seconds dial with sweeping original blue steel seconds hand. Signed OMEGA below the 12 with Omega symbol and SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial.

The gently raised and curved acrylic crystal is in mint condition, a new addition. The Omega-signed two-piece case is solid stainless steel and in excellent to mint condition, truly pristine in all respects. The original winding crown is complete with Omega symbol and in excellent condition, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent PLUS condition like the bezel, truly spotless with no wear or engravings. Inside I find a clean and fully serviced manual wind mechanism signed OMEGA WATCH CO., SWISS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, OXG. The serial number is #10,696,922, dating this watch to ca 1945 – 1946 as per published Omega serial number records. The inside of the original back lid is finely engine turned and stamped ACIER STAYBRITE, OMEGA, FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE with case number below.

Fully cleaned, oiled and regulated prior to auction, this Omegawinds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 18mm black deBeer Paris lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching steel buckle. Omega made very few rectangular and square form watches as compared to Longines, Hamilton, Gruen, etc. with the majority being in round cases. This excellent stainless steel example should be a welcome addition given its wrist appeal and relative scarcity. I like this one a lot!

I have always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in 1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly into jeweled movements. By 1922, the name Bulova would begin to appear on watch dials across the country and the firm would be the first in the industry in the total standardization of parts.

If you are looking for an excellent Art Deco watch this is a very pretty choice, a lady's RONA model from Bulova that dates to 1928. I cannot imagine any watch better representing the style of the 1920s and this one is truly excellent original condition.

Triple-signed, its 14kt White Rolled Gold plate case measures 32mm end to end and 17mm in width (21mm with original cabochon sapphire crown). This works out to be 1-1/4 inches long by 5/8 wide, not counting the winding crown. It is fitted on a vintage black cord bracelet band that will fit a wrist up to 7-3/4 inches in size. If you need me to adjust this smaller just let me know (or longer) just let me know. It has just returned from being fully serviced by my Bulova-trained watchmaker David and its original 15 jewel, manual wind Swiss mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The sterling silver, enamel finished dial is in mint condition, professionally restored to its correct, original status. It features a 60 minute inner track border, black enameled Arabic style numerals and original blued steel Spade-style hands. Note the finely engraved center dial, what detail! Signed BULOVA below the 12 and embossed Swiss at the base of the dial, below the bezel.

The solid glass crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws. The two-piece, hinged back case is excellent to mint condition (spotless), Bulova-signed and stamped 14 Karat Rolled Gold Plated. It is a tour de force of Art Deco engraved designs on the bezel AND case sides. Case condition is excellent. There was a similar model to this called the Beatrice but it had a non-engraved bezel (plain) whereas the Rona is finely engraved on all surfaces. The original cabochon sapphire winding crown is excellent, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is finely engraved with a feather design border and is free of any personal engravings or scratches, in excellent to mint condition. Peeking inside via the hinged back lid I note that the movement is protected by its own crystal and bezel, a very useful feature of many 1920s Bulova watches (called the Dust-Tite Protector) that protected it from dust and debris. The movement is a clean, Tonneau-shaped, manual wind model signed Bulova Watch Co., [Caliber] 6AF, Fifteen 15 Jewels, Swiss. There is also a date code Crescent Moon symbol on the movement that tells me it was produced in 1928. The inside of the case lid is stamped PAT. JUNE 10, 1924, BULOVA 14K ROLLED GOLD PLATE, NEW YORK with case number below.

This cleaned, oiled & regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a vintage old stock black cord bracelet strap that will fit a wrist up to 7-3/4 inches in size. I can easily size this for the winning bidder (shorter or even longer) at no charge, just tell me your wrist size and I’ll take care of the rest. Ladies and gentlemen, this is simply a beautiful Jazz Age timepiece in immaculate shape…ready to wear for that special event or every day.

Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.

Omega strongly reaffirmed its position as a collector’s brand in 2007 when Antiquorum held its Omegamania theme sale in Geneva, Switzerland. The prices realized vastly exceeded pre-auction estimates and set new records for many older models. Yes folks, good vintage Omega watches are only going UP in value.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, a bumper automatic wind SEAMASTER model from ca 1951 with an elegant black dial. Being a bumper self-winding watch means that the rotor turns approximately 300 degrees, back and forth, propelled by coils (springs) on either side. This differs from a rotor automatic that spins 360 degrees in both directions.

Triple-signed, it measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 32.5mm in width (35mm with unmarked gold winding crown). This works out to be 1-1/2 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide, not counting the crown. It is powered by a high quality Omega 351 caliber, seventeen jewel bumper automatic self-winding mechanism, fully serviced by my watchmaker David just last week to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The black, enamel finished dial is in mint condition, professionally restored to its correct appearance and even nicer than my photos show (black dials are a bear to photograph). Features include a 60 second gold marker inner track border, applied yellow gold hour markers, original gold metal Dauphine-style hands and original sweeping gold center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA AUTOMATIC with applied yellow gold Omega symbol below the 12 and Seamaster above the 6. It is further signed SWISS at the base of the dial.

The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition, a later replacement. The three-piece case is 14 Karat Yellow Gold filled and in great to excellent shape, a bit of brassing on the bezel but no wear on the body, lugs or back lid, very nice overall condition. The gold winding crown, unmarked, is a later replacement in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the snap down, 14k gold filled back lid is in excellent PLUS order with no wear or engravings, past or present. Inside I find a rose gold finished bumper automatic mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss, Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 351, OXG. The serial number of #12,714,339 dates the watch to ca 1951 as per available Omega production records. The inside of the case back is signed 14K GOLD FILLED, OMEGA WATCH CO., [Ref.] G6213 with case number below.

This watch has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker just last week so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new and high quality 16mm black deBeer Paris lizard (grain) calf leather band with matching gold finished buckle. Whether it be a Seamaster, Constellation or De Ville, all watch lovers need to have at least one Omega in his or her collection. Heck, I have about twenty and am just getting started!

        • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….keep in mind he gets more dog treats when you do (and he’s getting fat!)

Founded by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch Company. became a business in 1880, when the brand was officially introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both plain and complicated watches, suggesting that it was a source for chronographs and repeating watches.

By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the All Proof in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.

I am happy to offer for sale the following timepiece from the Wittnauer firm, a vintage men’s model that dates to ca 1950. This 17 jewel, Swiss made watch is 14kt Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent condition, a classic Tank form model that is even nicer than my photos show.

Triple signed for Wittnauer, it measures 34mm end to end and 21.5mm in width (23mm with crown). This works out to be 1-3/8 inches in length by 7/8 of an inch wide, including the crown. My trusted and talented watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind 9WN grade Wittnauer mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The silver color, enamel finished dial is in excellent order, professionally restored in the recent past. It features raised gold hour markers, gold Leaf-style hands and a separate seconds dial, slightly recessed, with sweep gold seconds hand. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12 marker.

The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition, removed in a couple photos to avoid glare. The two-piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent to mint condition, absolutely perfect. This case is best viewed (and appreciated) from its side, showing the projecting “Shield” lugs to best advantage. The original and matching gold finished winding crown (correct to be unmarked for this era) is in excellent shape as well, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent to mint condition with no wear or personal engravings. It is stamped 14K GOLD at the edge. Peeking inside I find a clean, manual wind mechanism that is signed Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss, [Caliber] 9WN Revue, AXA. The inside of the case lid is stamped WITTNAUER, NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL, 14K GOLD with case number below. The case maker was Arnold Lemieux, as noted by the L stamp.

This cleaned, oiled & regulated watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 18mm black deBeer hand crafted lizard grain strap with matching gold finished buckle, ready to be worn and enjoyed. All in all a very sharp, Retro Modern Wittnauer that is mid-century elegance personified. You won’t be disappointed!

The story of the Eterna Watch Co. of Grenchen, Switzerland reads as a long list of achievements in the world of horology. Countless innovations have originated from its factory, and they are prized watches amongst those in the know, primarily collectors in Europe and Japan. The quality is remarkable, and one look at an Eterna mechanism tells the story, very topnotch.

Founded on November 7, 1856, the first Eterna watch factory began producing pocket watch movements, quickly followed by complete timepieces. Urs Schild took control of the company in 1866, and was noted as the inventor of the pocket alarm watch (which Schild patented in 1908) for use on the wrist.

Through the 1930s and onwards the company had a succession of technical innovations, teamed with its movement-making subsidiary ETA. This included the smallest serially-produced wristwatch, with a baguette movement, in 1930; an eight-day alarm in the early thirties; the first Eterna automatic (self-winding) wristwatch in 1938; a men's model with a swinging winding-weight; an automatic wristwatch in 1942, considered remarkably small and thin for its time; and the futuristic winding-rotor on ball-bearings launched in 1948 for the Eterna-Matic self-winding wristwatches. Sorry if this introduction is a bit long but I wanted to emphasize that these watches were every bit as good (if not sometimes better) as Omega and Longines models from the same period.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following original condition men’s timepiece from the firm, an Eterna-Matic dress dial model (i.e., no seconds hand) that dates to the late 1950s. This is the first time that I have come across an automatic wind Eterna like this, designed as a dress model where telling the time is important but not to the ‘exact’ second.

Quadruple-signed, it measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (36.5mm with partially recessed winding crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 17 jewel, rotor automatic 1429U caliber movement (Swiss Patented, as marked) that has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David to ensure it winds smoothly and runs accurately.

The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, guaranteed untouched. Features include applied silver hour markers, a 60 minute outer track border and silver metal, Baton-style hands. Signed ETERNA-MATIC below the 12 with silver ball five star company trademark. It is further signed SWISS at the base of the dial, mostly hidden by the armored (tension ring) acrylic crystal.

Speaking of the crystal it is the original and in excellent condition. The two-piece case is solid stainless steel and the top section (body, bezel & lugs) is in excellent condition, very crisp with NO wear. The original steel winding crown features the raised, five star Eterna emblem and is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is stainless steel, screw down in design and in very good overall shape, showing pinprick wear and minor pitting in some areas. It has never been engraved and does not have any scratches.

Taking a look inside I find a higher-grade, rotor automatic mechanism signed ETERNA-MATIC WATCH CO., SWISS PAT., SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, ADJUSTED TWO 2 POSITIONS, SWISS, EXA with caliber number 1429U stamped below the balance wheel. The movement serial number is #4,290,675. The inside of the case lid is nicely engine turned and stamped ETERNA WATCH CO. SWISS, ACIER INOXYDABLE A.

This nice, original Eterna-matic has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 18mm black deBeer glove leather strap with matching steel buckle. All in all an elegant and high quality Swiss watch in a lesser seen dress dial configuration.

Founded by Ariste Calame in the City of Le Locle in 1882, the Zodiac Watch Co. of Switzerland has long been a sought-after watch amongst collectors, especially those who appreciate vintage sport and diving watches. The Zodiac name was used very early on but was not registered until 1908.

The firm exhibited at the Basle Watch Show in 1949 with the Datagraphic, a calendar watch with moon phases and the Autographic, a self-winding model with visible power reserve indicator that was the official watch of the Swiss Federal Railways. By the late 1950s the Sea Wolf divers watch and Rotographic rotor automatic models would be introduced.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s vintage watch from the firm, a less often seen Bumper Automatic model that dates to ca 1955 and is in great, original condition. This is the first time that I have ever had a “Bumper” (as opposed to rotor) automatic Zodiac watch, and I would have to say they are quite scarce given my search of the web for similar models. Omega was the firm that made the bumper (rotor moves back and forth vs. 360 degrees) design famous but few other companies made this rotor design.

Quadruple signed for Zodiac, its 14kt Yellow Gold electroplated (with stainless steel back) case 42mm lug tip to lug tip and 33.5mm in width (35mm including the Zodiac-signed original crown). This works out to be just over 1-5/8 inches in total length by 1- 3/8 inches wide, including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel (Zodiac Caliber 1225A), self winding automatic mechanism that has been serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is guaranteed untouched since leaving the factory and in excellent condition perhaps a speck or two of age. It features a 60 second outer chapter, raised gold Arabic numerals, original gold Leaf-style hands and a sweep center seconds gold metal hand. Signed Zodiac Automatic below the 12 and further signed Swiss at the base of the dial.

The domed acrylic crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws, a new old stock addition. The two-piece case is comprised of a 14 Karat Yellow Gold electroplated bezel (to 20 microns as stamped “Plaque 20G EPSA” between the bottom lugs) and stainless steel back lid. It is in great to excellent condition with just a touch of rub on a couple lugs. I really like this case and it reminds me of a vintage Rolex Oyster model with its beefy, turned down lugs. The gold finished winding crown is marked with the Zodiac logo and in very good shape, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the stainless steel back lid is a screw-down design signed Zodiac #431,708, Water & Shock Resistant, Automatic, Antimagnetic, Swiss. It is in excellent condition with NO wear or engravings, past or present. Note also that the back of the lugs are excellent too. Inside I find a clean bumper automatic mechanism (Zodiac 1225 A Caliber) that is signed Zodiac Ltd., Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss, KXF.The inside of the case back is nicely engine turned and stamped ZODIAC W. LTD., LE LOCLE SWISS, FOND ACIER INOXYDABLE, [Model] 656.

This timepiece has been recently cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 18mm black deBeer smooth leather, hand crafted strap with matching gold finished buckle. Ladies and gentleman, I think you will be hard pressed to find a nicer and original Zodiac Bumper than this and I doubt that there are many still in service today.

My longtime favorite U.S. watch firm is the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific American firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Elgin, Illinois (the factory had a National Street address). It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago, and the Elgin factory would become the focal point of the town.

Elgin would offer its first watch for sale in 1867, marking the beginning of fierce competition with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame. Bartlett and Currier would later join the Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield.

I am very pleased to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from the firm, a midcentury modern, harder to find Cranbrook model that dates to ca 1955 - 1956. This is the first time that I have had this top of the line LORD ELGIN model but I can tell you that I have always wanted one. Its radiant dial juxtaposed with an inlaid enamel hour marker bezel and “pinched” case makes quite the statement. When first sold in 1954 it retailed for $75 and came with a black lizard strap. In today’s dollars that would be $640.

Triple-signed for Elgin, this 14kt Yellow Gold filled timepiece measures 36.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 27mm in width at its widest (including original crown). This works out to be 1-7/16 inches long by just shy of 1-1/8 inches wide, including the winding crown. My trusted watchmaker David has fully serviced its original and high quality 680 caliber, 21 jewel mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The silver, enamel finished “radiating” dial is very Sputnik in style and in mint condition, professionally restored during its service. It features an applied solid gold 12, solid gold “dots” at the 3 and 9 positions, original gold metal Dauphine-style hands and cross hair design seconds dial with sweeping gold metal original seconds hand. Signed LORD ELGIN below the 12 with the dp (durapower mainspring) logo printed below.

The raised and curved acrylic crystal is new old stock (1950s) and made for the Cranbrook model, it even had a 4821 Elgin model number sticker attached to it.

The two-piece case is 14 Karat Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent to mint condition, complete with inlaid black enamel hour markers around the pinched bezel and fancy faceted lugs. The original winding crown (correctly unmarked) is a matching yellow gold-finished and in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is also 14k Yellow Gold Filled and in excellent PLUS shape with no personal engravings or any wear, past or present. It is stamped “14k Gold Filled” and is in like new condition, no exaggeration. A 14kt gold filled case has a lot of gold, equal to 80 microns of gold thickness or about ten times what a Swiss gold electroplated watch has today (they are EP to 5 to 10 microns).

Inside is a clean Twenty One Jewel mechanism that is signed Elgin [Grade] 680 USA – 21 Jewels, Adj’d. This model was introduced in 1954-1955 and that was the last year the company stamped serial numbers on the movement. As such, I would date this watch to ca 1956 as they only made it for a couple of years.

The inside of the back case lid is stamped Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co., 14KT Gold Filled, Star Watch Case Co., [Model] 4821 with case number below.

This Retro Modern, Sputnik era timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new and high quality 19mm black deBeer hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching gold color buckle, very much like it originally had. I can’t remember when I have had a nicer 1950s Elgin watch for sale, my very first “CRANBROOK” model after close to 30 years of collecting Elgin watches.

Founded by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch Co. became a true watch company in 1880, when the brand was officially introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory.

In 1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the 20th anniversary issue of the Jewelers Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold both plain and complicated watches, suggesting that it was a source for chronographs and repeating watches as well. By the 20th century they were firmly established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for producing the first waterproof watch called the All Proof in 1918. Long associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a U.S. partnership the firm is now owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's vintage Wittnauer watch, a solid stainless steel TROPHY date model (C302) that is in excellent condition both inside and out. Unlike its Longines brothers and sisters that were typically cased and timed in the United States, this early 1960s watch (I reckon around 1964) was made entirely in Switzerland and is quite stunning in person, a mid century design that is as clean and elegant today as when first sold 50 years ago.

Triple-signed, it measures 37mm lug tip to lug tip and 33.5mm in width (35.5mm with winding crown). This works out to be just under 1-1/2 inches in total length by just over 1-1/4 inches in width, not counting the Wittnauer winding crown. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 17 jewel, manual wind mechanism that has been fully serviced by my long-time watchmaker David, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The antique white, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition professionally restored to its correct original status. It features raised silver hour markers, a semi quickset date window at the 3 position, original Dauphine style hands and a cross hair sub-seconds dial with sweep original seconds hand. Signed WITTNAUER below the 12 and SWISS below the crystal (the tension/ armored ring covers it).

Speaking of which, the original armored hardened acrylic crystal is in mint condition. I have lightly hand polished it and it is very clear and in like new shape. The two-piece Wittnauer signed case is solid stainless steel and in excellent PLUS order, like new. The stainless steel crown (unmarked) is in excellent shape as well, winding and setting smoothly. It is not signed but I have looked at this watch and crown closely and would make an educated guess that the crown is original.

Turning the watch over I find a screw-down stainless steel back lid is free of any engravings and is in excellent PLUS shape, free of any wear or engravings (very crisp and original). Inside I find a clean and higher quality mechanism signed Wittnauer Watch Co., Inc, Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] C11BG2, Swiss, AXA. The inside of the case lid is stamped WITTNAUER WATCH CO. INC. SWISS, STAINLESS STEEL, [Model] 6300 with case number below.

This watch has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 18mm black deBeer glove leather band with stainless steel buckle. All in all a well-built, beautifully designed and excellent condition Wittnauer timepiece. As the years go by and I approach thirty years of collecting vintage watches I am drawn more and more to the late 1950s, early 1960s models, they never seem to go out of style.

My favorite of the U.S. watch firms has always been the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Chicago in Elgin, Illinois. It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago. By 1867 the first watch was marketed for sale, retailing for $115 (think of that in today’s prices) and Elgin was soon competing head-on with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men’s timepiece from the Elgin firm, an all original Tonneau case “Lord Elgin” 21 jewel model that dates to ca 1942 and is in excellent ALL ORIGINAL condition, only the leather strap is new. Much like the all original Longines bullet lug watch I have up for sale this week, this timepiece is also ROSE GOLD filled, or 14kt Rose (Pink) Gold filled to be exact. I can honestly say that I have never seen an early 1940s Elgin watch with a nicer original dial than this.

Triple-signed (fully signed) for Elgin, its case measures 41.5mm end to end and 21mm in width (22.5mm with original rose gold winding crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by13/16 of an inch in width, not including the original crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 559 grade, 21 jewel (top of the line) mechanism to ensure it runs smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The rose or pink gold, matte enamel finished metal dial is in 100% original, guaranteed, and in mint condition – the nicest original dial that I’ve seen on an Elgin watch in years. It is not NOS and put on this watch, it left the factory with this very dial attached.

Features include a 60 minute outer chapter, black enamel painted Arabic numerals, original blue steel Baton style hands and a recessed, square sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and ‘sweep’ blue steel seconds hand. Signed LORD ELGIN below the 12 with a STAR below this.

The curved solid glass crystal is in MINT condition with no flaws. The case is a beauty, 14 Karat Rose Gold Filled and an elegant Tonneau style. It is in excellent to mint condition – like new and never polished. I would hazard a guess that this watch was worn a year or two at most, it is pristine.

The original and matching color rose gold winding crown is correctly unsigned and in excellent condition, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent to mint shape and without any wear or engravings. Peeking inside I find a high-grade Twenty One Jewel (15/0 Size) manual wind movement signed Elgin [Grade] 559, USA, 21 Jewels with serial number C184,821, dating this watch to ca 1942 as per company production records. The inside of the case back is stamped Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co., Schwab & Wuischpard, 14K Gold Filled, with case number 059,374 below.

This watch has been fully overhauled (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 14mm black crocodile (grain) calf leather strap with yellow gold finished buckle. If you ever wanted a 1940s rose gold American made watch you would be very hard-pressed to find a nicer example…my pick of the week! Well, that and the bullet lug Longines 

                    • Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. I am especially proud of my excellent feedback and high number of repeat clients.

Draw the measurements on paper to help visualize the watch on your wrist. Remember, watches for men made from the 1910s to 1970s were noticeably smaller than what is considered normal today.

Founded by Aaron Dennison and E. Howard, the highly regarded Waltham Watch Company of Waltham, Mass. is one of the grandfathers of U.S. horology, in business from 1850 to 1959 making high quality pocket watches, clocks and wristwatches known the world over. The company adopted the American Waltham name in 1859, having already used such names as Warren, Tracy, Appleton and Boston.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage ladies dress cocktail model from the firm, a very Art Deco, swivel lug case model that dates to ca 1939 and is in pristine condition. Its entire case is crafted of 14kt Solid White Gold and is set with a total of Thirty (30) Genuine Diamonds that sparkle bright and are securely set.

Its case measures 45mm lug tip to lug tip and 14.5mm in width (15.5mm with winding crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-3/4 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, including the crown. It is fitted on a vintage, new old stock black cord bracelet that will currently fit a wrist up to 8 inches in size but I can easily shorten this to any size for the winner, just let me know the length you need (it’s also easy to do yourself). My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original, manual wind 17 jewel baguette design Waltham mechanism, a very high quality movement. It winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition and without flaw. It features a 60 minute outer track border, raised gold numerals and original blue steel hands. Signed WALTHAM below the 12.

The solid glass crystal is in mint condition, removed in some photos to avoid glare. The two-piece, hinged lug case is 14 Karat Solid White Gold and in mint condition, complete with a total of 30 Genuine Diamonds securely set. The original white gold finished domed winding crown is in great shape, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent order, stamped K&O, 14K. K&O stands for Katz & Ogush, the American case making company who fabricated this beauty for Waltham. They are best known for their casework with Gruen. It is tastefully signed Florence Mitchell – Sept. 22, 39.

Peeking inside I find a higher grade, baguette shaped mechanism that is signed Waltham, 17 Jewels, 4131. The inside of the case is stamped with a case serial number.

This watch has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new old stock black cord bracelet that will fit a wrist up to 8” in size. I can adjust this any size smaller (even longer) for the winner, just let me know your wrist size. All in all a beautiful Art Deco Evening watch from a maker you see much less of compared to Hamilton, Bulova or Elgin. It is truly a beautiful, rare bird!

Founded in Biel in 1864 by Edouard Heuer, the Ed. Heuer Watch Co. S.A. would later become the firm Tag Heuer that we know today (Tag = Techniques d'Avant Garde ). Collectors know the Heuer firm to be one of the significant makers of stopwatches and chronographs, producing, among others, chronographs to order for Rolex. They made a name for itself in sporting time measurement, particular racecar events such as the Lemans.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following ladies timepiece from the firm, a pre-owned Professional model WE1412-R-2 in excellent original condition, complete with its original oyster style stainless steel Tag Heuer bracelet. This is a 200m (660 ft) rated divers watch, complete with screw-down crown, sapphire crystal, and ratchet bezel.

Five times signed for Tag Heuer (dial, crown, case, mechanism and bracelet), it measures 32.5mm lug end to lug end and 27mm in width (31mm with original Tag Heuer, screw-down crown). This works out to be 1-1/4 inches long by just under 1-1/8 inches wide, without the crown. The thickness of the watch is 9mm, making for a comfortable fit and the original band with adjustable clasp and wet suit expansion feature will fit a wrist up to about 7-3/8 inches (or any size smaller). It is powered by its original Tag Heuer, ETA caliber Swiss quartz mechanism that keeps precision accurate time.

The original silver enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, featuring a 60 second outer track, luminous hour markers, original Mercedes style hands (some patina), a quick-change date window at the 3 position and silver metal center seconds hand. Signed TAG HEUER below the 12 in green and red and also professional 200 meters above the 6. It is further signed T SWISS MADE T below the 6.

The original sapphire crystal is in excellent overall condition, one light scratch only, hard to see without a magnifying loupe. The two-piece case is solid stainless steel and satin finished, in excellent condition. The bi-directional black and silver timing bezel is pristine as well, clicking over as it should.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is stainless steel, screw down in design with the Tag Heuer shield engraved in the center. It has a few nicks but is in great –excellent shape. It is further stamped Swiss Made Since 1860, Tag Heuer, Water Resistant 200m Tested – Stainless Steel, Swiss Made WE1412-R-2. The unique serial number is T55544. Inside is a proven ETA caliber, Tag Heuer signed precision quartz Swiss mechanism that keeps accurate time.

This Tag Heuer professional diving watch is in excellent, all original condition, keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on its original oyster link stainless steel bracelet in matching satin finish signed TAG HEUER on the outer clasp and All Stainless Steel – 303/31, Tag Heuer on the inside clasp. It will fit a wrist up to approximately 7-3/8 inches in size and can be made smaller. This watch does NOT come with original box or papers, you are purchasing just the watch. All in all a very nice, original Tag that is perfect for everyday wear, scuba diving, hiking, you name it. Thanks for taking a look!
