 53.9% of young adults between ages 12-20 have consumed alcohol  Young people who drink are most likely to be victims of violent crimes  People younger then age 21 are more likely to be involved in violent behavior, attempt suicide, engage in unprotected sex, or have multiple sex partners  Males are more likely to be engaged than teen girls  The ratio of boys to girls is 29.1% to 27.5%  The highest prevalence problem is the ages between 18-25  42.2% reported binge drinking at least once during the past month  College students tend to drink less often than non-students, but do drink at parties for example  1/3 of drivers ages 21-24 who died in a car crash in 2006 has a blood alcohol level was over the legal limit  27.3% of drivers in this age group drove under the influence  Some researches believe that heavy drinking at this age can cause impairments in brain function, such as memory coordination and motor skills  Special Risks for Girls who Drink o Heavy girl drinkers are more likely to say that they drink to escape problems or to cope with frustration o Girls are more likely to drink because of family problems or pee pressure o Drinking can delay puberty for girls o Teenage girls who drink are more likely to have unprotected sex than girls who don’t drink, putting them at risk for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases Alcohol Poisoning o Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, drinking too much, too fast, slows the bodily functions to dangerous levels such as heart rate blood pressure, and breathing Signs of Alcohol Poisoning o Unconsciousness and semi consciousness o Slow repartition o Cold, clammy, pale, or bluish skin o A strong odor of alcohol breath and coming from skin  What to do in an Alcohol Poisoning Emergency o Never leave someone who may have alcohol poisoning alone to sleep off o Call 911 immediately o Turn the person on his or her left side, using a pillow placed at the small of the back to keep him or her position. This will prevent choking and vomiting o Stay with person until help arrives.

Binge Drinking o The consumption of five or more drinks at a sitting often rapid succession o Students not living with family were more likely to binge drink o Binge drinkers are eight times more likely than other college student to miss classes, fall behind in schoolwork, be injured, and damage property. o They also face alcohol poisoning, a severe and potentially fatal reaction to an alcohol overdose.
