Welcome to all our members. Hope you are all well rested and looking forward to an exciting year on the road. Gauging from the attendances at the first few races I must say ALBERTON athletes certainly seems to be. Once again, the first month has flown by so quickly that we are now already looking forward to the time to share our love for our partners or a special someone for Valentines Day to show what they mean to us and how much we care.

It’s a new year and to everyone who is training for Comrades we wish to say GOOD LUCK!! There will be a few Comrades Talks which will be held at various venues. If you are interested or have any questions about the Comrades Marathon, please visit them on their website www.comrades.com to identify a venue and time which suits you.

It’s a new year, so, a new beginning. Come on guys, join us at our second home and join us in having some fun and laughter on Tuesdays and Thursdays, most of all make use of our Umbrellas and Gazebos where we put them up, meet up with the old as well as our new members. LET’s GET ALBERTON on the map.

PLEASE remember that February is time for our Annual February Night Race. So diarise Wednesday 27 February as the night that you can help your club proud by helping and ensuring we stage a successful event. Someone should get in touch with you soon to ask for your help ,BUT do not wait, offer your assistance to Deon Pretorius or any of the committee members. CONGRATULATIONS Being the start of a new year, we have not had too many results, although it seems some of our members made an early statement of their intentions to fly the Alberton flag with pride;

Thank You Alberton Road Runners THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH!

TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More. Let us make this our motto this year and work together in training, in racing and in socialising.

Find out how you can motivate, inspire, help or guide your fellow athletes this year and identify how you can help put together a training session or group in the mornings or evenings with other runners of similar pace and similar targets and schedules,

There is a training group which runs from the Virgin Active Club in Meyersdal every morning at around 05:00. You can speak to Cindy Beeming or Andries Venter to find out more about this group.

Please provide Deon or Andries with information of a regular training group you run or walk with in the mornings or evenings of which we can then tell other members.

Make your self available to drive a bus on the Thursday evening runs or even speak to the athletes and make up an ALBERTON bus or two at some of the races to show our unity.

Introduce your friends and neighbours to the club if they show an interest in this wonderful sport of ours, you could make the difference in their lives.

Please don’t forget that we are always here to help or encourage our fellow runners and walkers!! AAAC Road Runners Incentive Scheme 2007/2008

The Incentives for 2007/2008 is designed to identify and recognise the best performers in all the various distances. To qualify for a distance performance recognition award you will be given a list of incentives from which you have to choose, complete and have an official time recorded, which can be verified by the statistician.

All age dates will be calculated by using 31/12/2007 as the date of age determination. (This means that whatever category you fall into on 31/12/2007 will be the category in which you qualify for the Annual prize giving).

Juniors (Younger than 20 Years (born after 31/12/1986) Seniors (20 Years and over (Born on or before 31/12/1986) but under 40 (Born after31/12/1966) Veterans (40 Years and over (Born on or before 31/12/1966) but under 50 (Born after31/12/1956) Masters (50 Years and over (Born on or before 31/12/1956) but under 60 (Born after31/12/1946) Grandmasters (60 Years and over (Born on or before 31/12/1946) but under 70 (Born after31/12/1936) Great Grandmasters (70 Years and over (Born on or before 31/12/1936)

All incentives below will be applicable to each of the abovementioned age categories

Rules for determining top performers a.) To qualify you must be a paid up member of the Alberton Amateur Athletic Club – Road Running Section on 31/01/2008. b.) Top 3 positions in each Category in each distance will be recognised at the prize giving. c.) Positions will be determined by Club Member position in an event by sex and age category. This means that a. if you are the first ALBERTON MALE Grand master in a particular event you will receive 100 Points. b. if you are the second ALBERTON MALE Grand master in that same event you will receive 99 Points. c. etc… d.) Should there be a tie on points then all the incentives over that distance for those members who tied will be taken into account and the BEST two times will be added together to determine the who ranks above the other (This means if two members both scored 200 points for the 10 Km distance, then all their 10 km results which were part of the Incentives list will be looked at and their best two times will be added together to determine a time to be compared against the other members’ best two times.) e.) The overall Athlete of the year for each age category and sex will be determined by identifying the athlete who had the most points in the most distances. f.) For the Time Trial prize you must ensure that you participate in at least 12 official Time Trials (6 x 4Km and 6 x 8Km) and that your times are recorded by the timekeeper on that night (i.e. no personal time keeping or recording will be taken into consideration). g.) This system is applicable to Runners only as currently there are too few Walkers to apply this system.(Walkers system will remain the same as for 2005/2006).

SUB JUNIORS (under Sixteens) AS FROM 1 JANUARY 2008.

These juniors are excluded from most official distance road races and in order to involve them in the club and give them recognition for their efforts we have decided to use the time trials as the basis to determine the best performers.

The same rules of points determination will be used as for the official prize giving but all calculations will be based on the official time trials and incentive races they participated in.

a.) The sub juniors have to be members of the Alberton Amateur Athletic Club (Road Running or Cross Country). b.) No “Sub Junior of the year” will be appointed only Category winners. c.) 2nd and 3rd places will only be awarded should we have 5 or more sub-juniors in an age category. d.) 10Km must be selected from the official incentive list. e.) Prizes will only be given to the overall winners of each age category and not a prize for each distance for each age
