I. Vendor unit.

A. Food List: State vendor unit is working with a graphic designer to help create a new and improved food list. More photos of approved WIC foods will be placed in new food list in a larger size so clients are able to easily identify their needed products. For formatting concerns, questions or comments, please contact Sandra Harbanuk by June 20, 2012. In addition, if you are interested in being on the food list development team, contact Sandra soon.

B. Farmers Market Season: The FM season has begun and it is recommended the all FM vouchers are printed immediately so that clients have use of the entire FM season. If your agency is interested in FM Nutrition Education materials, please let Alice Albrecht know.

C. Inappropriate use of benefits: Some clients have been misusing their WIC benefits by; selling formula, using outdated checks, and deliberately purchasing the wrong items with their vouchers. Alice is waiting to receive 12-20 Inappropriate Action Forms from Local Agencies. It is the responsibility of the LA to present this form to the client who has the option to explain oneself, sign, not sign or see to a fair hearing regarding the benefit misuse. After presenting form to client, LA must note actions in AKWIC and send signed or not signed copy of Inappropriate Action Form back to Alice. This documentation is very important for when the auditors evaluate our efforts to resolve the benefit abuse. Alice will be in contact with LAs who still need to return their Inappropriate Action Forms.

II. Management Evaluation Tool: We are working to LEAN the ME process and the way we communicate with the LAs. One tool developed to help this endeavor is the updated Self- Assessment which includes Breastfeeding Peer Counseling components of the program. This tools will not only help standardize the ME process, but also inform LAs about our concerns and what areas of operation we will be evaluating. Expect to use this form for your LAs next ME. For questions, comments and concerns, please contact Kathleen Wayne by July 6, 2012.

III. FY14 grantee changes, Request for Proposal: On June 15, 2012, a teleconference will be held about the new RFP and FY14 grantee changes. Please submit any questions, comments Quarterly Teleconference June 8, 2012 or concerns you would like covered in the official report during this conference by 5pm June 15th; Questions submitted after this time will not be put in the report. Note that the state cannot officially answer questions, but we can ask for clarification to consider while developing the RFP. WIC has not participated in this formal process for nearly 10 years.

IV. Potential piloting of Pronto 7: We are looking to purchase three Pronto 7 non-invasive hemoglobin testing machines (created by Masimo) to pilot around the state. It is slightly smaller than the Hemocue machine and is completely portable. This machine can test women and children, but is not entirely accurate on; infants, those with cold hands, and women wearing nail polish or fake nails. If your agency is interested in piloting this machine for the state, please contact Dana Kent.

V. Year End funds purchases: The end of the state fiscal year is June 30th and the state is working to spend the rest of the SFY allocated funds. If there is something you are interested in having the Admin office purchase, please submit those requests to Amy George. In the meantime, Amy will put together a list of purchased items that will be available for the LAs to receive.
