A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor of Ohio County Times-News Reporter and Editor

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Ohio County Times-News reporter and editor Dave McBride upon his election into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, this Honorable Body commends Dave McBride, reporter and editor of the Ohio County Times-News, a weekly newspaper in Hartford, Kentucky, for his selection as one of the seven 2014 inductees to the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Mr. McBride proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Upon his return, he began his career as a journalist in 1957 with the Kingsport Times-News in Kingsport, Tennessee; and WHEREAS, Mr. McBride remained with the Kingsport Times-News until 1960. During his tenure, the paper was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1958 for his coverage of a plane crash on Holston Mountain in far eastern Tennessee; and WHEREAS, Mr. McBride returned to Owensboro in the fall of 1960 to become the night wire editor of the Messenger-Inquirer. Mr. McBride's career lead him to several Western Kentucky publications over the next decade, including the Henderson Gleaner- Journal, the Evansville Press, and briefly as a television reporter with WFIE; and WHEREAS, Mr. McBride was hired as the editor of the weekly Ohio County Times-News in February 1971, where he has remained ever since. He is currently the author of the weekly column "Little Bit of Everything"; and WHEREAS, Mr. McBride's long and illustrious career has spanned several decades of dedicated, thorough reporting to better inform the citizens of Ohio County and surrounding areas. He is undoubtedly a worthy recipient of this honor; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

his lifelong commitment to quality journalism in Western Kentucky and congratulate him upon his election as a 2014 inductee into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and recognition of Dave McBride.

 Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Jerry Rhoads for delivery.
