THE VINTAGE MOTOR CYCLE CLUB FLAT TANK SECTION SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS for the VETERAN and VINTAGE WEEKEND and ROAD TRIAL

Invitation The Flat Tank Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club Limited invites drivers of pre-1931 solo and sidecar motorcycles and three-wheeled cars to participate in the Veteran and Vintage Weekend and Road Trial. The Weekend comprises a number of social events, a competitive Road Trial and a Concours d’Elegance competition. 2. Format and Timetable Friday 3rd June Site open 3.00 p.m. Social Evening with Quiz 7.30 p.m. Saturday 4th June Start of Veteran and Vintage Road Trial 10.00 a.m. Concours d’Elegance Judging At Lunch Stop Social Evening with Skittles 7.30 p.m. Sunday 5th June Start of Veteran and Vintage Social Run 10.30 a.m. Announcement of Road Trial results 4.00 p.m. (followed by Tea, Coffee and Biscuits) 4. Venue The event will be based at The Haw Bridge Inn (map reference SO 844 278) which is situated on the B 4213 road between Tewkesbury and Ledbury where it crosses the River Severn at Haw Bridge. This will be the official start where machines will be assembled for the duration of the event. Competitors will be able to camp / caravan at The Haw Bridge Inn Camp Site, 01452 780316. A variety of accommodation is available in the area. Eligibility The event is open to fully paid up members of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club riding machines manufactured before 1st January 1931. 2 VMCC MEMBERSHIP CARDS MUST BE PRODUCED WHEN SIGNING ON. 6. Entries Entries will be received forthwith on the official entry form accompanied by the correct fee and must reach the Secretary of the Meeting no later than Friday 27th May 2011. Acceptance will be at the discretion of the Secretary of the Meeting. Requests to share start times and ride together must be sent in the same envelope. THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ENTRIES IS 80. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to: VMCC Flat Tank Section Entry fees once accepted will only be returned in the event of abandonment or postponement. 7. Entry Fees Details of Entry Fees for both riders and passengers will be found on the Entry Form. These Entry Fees include the cost of a Ploughman’s Lunch on Saturday and a Finishers Award. 8. Riding Numbers Two riding numbers will be provided by the organisers. These must be clearly displayed front and rear and must be removed immediately after the event or upon retirement. 9. Legal Requirements Drivers and machines must comply with all legal requirements including adequate insurance covering this type of event and a current MoT certificate; also they must display a current Road Fund Licence. 10. Concours D’Elegance To be eligible for the Concours d’Elegance competition, a machine must have completed the Road Trial. 11. Road Trial 11.1. Announcement The Flat Tank Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club Limited will hold on Saturday 4th June 2011 a Navigational Road Trial for Solo and Sidecar Motorcycles, Tricycles and Three-Wheeled Cyclecars manufactured before 1st January 1931. The event will be known as the Veteran and Vintage Weekend Navigational Road Trial and will be run under VMCC Permit Number 2011 / 464. 11.2. Classes Pioneer Class Machines manufactured before 1st January 1908 Veteran Class Machines manufactured from 1st January 1908 to 31st December 1914 Early-Vintage Class Machines manufactured from 1st January 1915 to 31st December 1923 3 Late-Vintage Class Machines manufactured from 1st January 1924 to 31st December 1930 11.3. Description A diagrammatic route card will be issued at the start. The first competitor will start at 10.01 am and the remainder at one minute intervals. Anyone observed exceeding the legal speed limit will be excluded from the trial. Competitors are requested to be aware of noise and smoke pollution and our image when in public view. The route will be approximately 80 miles in length and will be over roads and lanes suitable for your type of machinery and will not include distressing ascents and descents. A recovery vehicle will be available for the duration of the event. Please Note: do not spoil the event for the other participants by arranging your own following vehicle/trailer; this can result in a procession, congest the route and give the Club a bad name. Odometers will be covered from view during the Road Trial. The use of electronic devices is not considered to be in the vintage image and if detected will lead to exclusion. The organisers will provide a fire extinguisher at the Start and Finish. There will be a Lunch Stop on the route where Lunches will be provided for all drivers and passengers. Entrants requiring additional Lunches should order, and pay for, these Lunches with their entry. Competitors should leave the Lunch Stop exactly 90 minutes after arrival there. 11.4. Check Points A number of Check Points will be set up on the Route. Marks may be gained at each Check Point for successful completion of simple tests or tasks. 11.5. Check Point Tests There will be a simple test for Drivers at each Check Point for which marks will be awarded. Tests will involve answering questions relating to motorcycling, the Highway Code or general knowledge, or completion of a simple task on the vehicle being used. No assistance from Passengers will be allowed when completing these tests. 11.6. Penalties Drivers who fail to obscure their odometer will lose twenty marks. Stickers will be provided for this purpose. Twenty marks will be lost for wrong direction of approach at a Check Point. Drivers missing a Check Point will lose fifty marks. Any driver seen to be receiving outside assistance as to the position of Check Points will be disqualified. 4 Any driver using electronic time, distance or average speed measuring equipment will be disqualified. Any driver missing two or more consecutive Check Points will be deemed to have retired. 11.7. Bonus Marks Drivers will be credited with Bonus Marks as follows: For each year before 1915 1 mark Solo machine under 151 cc 4 marks Solo machine 151 cc to 250 cc 2 marks Sidecar or three-wheeler under 301 cc 10 marks Sidecar or three-wheeler 301 cc to 500 cc 5 marks Single gear, any drive 8 marks Two speed, belt final drive 5 marks Two speed, chain or shaft final drive 4 marks Three speed, belt final drive 4 marks Multi or Gradua type gear (all belt) 2 marks No clutch 4 marks Belt rim or contracting band brakes 1 mark per brake Wheel rim brakes 2 marks per brake P & M, Royal Enfield, Scott and similar type gears are deemed to incorporate a clutch 11.8. Teams Teams should comprise of THREE drivers of any class of machine. Each Team must nominate a Captain who will be responsible for the Team trophy. There will be no additional entry fee for a Team. Team entries must be submitted on the Entry Form. 11.9. Awards Performance and Concours D’Elegance Awards will be presented at the Flat Tank Section’s Luncheon and Award Presentation in early-2012. 11.9.1. Performance Best Overall Performance Bill Shepherd Memorial Trophy (excluding machine bonus marks) Best Performance on a Pioneer Flat Tank Section Pioneer Shield Best Performance on a Veteran F H Greening & Sons Cup Runner-Up in the Veteran Class Award Best Performance in the Early- The Peter and Valerie Beaney Trophy Vintage Class Runner-Up in the Early-Vintage Award Class Best Performance in the Late- The Roy Mantell Shield Vintage Class Runner-Up in the Late-Vintage The Rosemary Muirhead Trophy 5 Class Best Performance by a Lady Betty Telford Bowl Three Wheeler Sidecar Class The Brass Knocker Trophy Best Performance by a Team The Cotswold Section Trophy Best Performance on a 2-Stroke The Bent Valve Award Best Sob Story of the Weekend The Malcolm Mullins Worn Sprocket Trophy Award Biggest Disappointment of the The Wooden Spoon Weekend No Driver may win more than one Performance Award, with the exception of the Team Award. Only machines completing the Sunday Road Trial under their own power will be eligible for a Performance Award. 11.9.2. Concours D’Elegance Best Veteran The Robert Derrick Limited Cup Best Early-Vintage The Michael Wills Shield Best Late-Vintage The BMS Shield Best Three Wheeler/Sidecar The Carole Nash Cup The Most Original Machine The F.H.G. Flat Tank Trophy Only machines completing the Road Trial under their own power will be eligible for a Concours d’Elegance Award.

11.10. Ties Should a tie occur, the following tie deciders will be applied in this order: - The rider covering the greatest distance with the least loss of marks. The rider of the smaller capacity machine. The rider of the older machine. 11.11. Protests Protests must be made to the Secretary of the Meeting within seven days of the publication of the results and must be accompanied by a fee of £50.00. The protest fee will be returned only if the protest is upheld or considered reasonable. 11.12. Western Region Road Trials Championship The results of the Veteran and Vintage Navigational Road Trial will count towards the Veteran and Vintage Classes of the 2011 Western Region Road Trials Championship. 12. Social Run A Social Run will be organised on Sunday 5th June 2011 selected for drivers of pre-1931 solo and sidecar motorcycles and three-wheeled cars. The Run will start from The Haw Bridge Inn at 10:30 a.m. The Saturday Social Run will be run under VMCC Permit Number 2011 / 465.
