Goals and Objectives

1. Develop and demonstrate appropriate vocal practices and refine the use of the voice as an instrument. 2. Sing vocal literature that may include changes in tempi, keys, and meters, written in modest ranges. 3. Sing vocal literature representing diverse genres, styles, and cultures. 4. Develop skills in improvising, composing, and arranging music. 5. Develop skills in listening to, analyzing, and evaluating musical experiences. 6. Apply reading and notating skills. 7. Develop an understanding of vocal literature in relationship to history, culture, and other content areas.

Grading Criteria 1. Tests 40% -written tests -part tests -vocabulary tests -rhythmic reading -sight singing -portfolio 2. Daily Assignments 30% -worksheets -quizzes -journal entry 3. Participation 30%

Participation- Each student will begin the semester with a participation grade of 100. Points will be deducted as deemed appropriate by the teacher for not following class procedures.

Class Rules and Procedures 1. Follow all directions the first time. 2. Be on time. 3. No food, gum, or drink in the classroom. 4. Respect others and their property. 5. Raise your hand before speaking. 6. NO EXCUSES!! Consequences 1st offense- Verbal Warning 2nd offense- Student/Teacher Conference 3rd offense- Contact Parent 4th offense- In School Suspension (ISS)- Depending upon the infraction the teacher reserves the right to skip steps 1-3 and send a student directly to ISS.

Concerts and Rehearsal Attendance- There will be required concerts and rehearsals that all students must be present for unless prior approval has been given by the teacher. Failure to attend required performances will result in a “0” for the performance.

Exam- The final exam for this course is as followed.

End of semester concert: (Christmas/Spring) – 50% Written Exam- 50% Failure to attend the end of the semester concert will result in a “0” for 50% of the exam.

Concert Attire- Students should have all components for their outfit for each performance. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of points from the performance grade. In some cases the student may not be permitted to perform and receive a “0” for the performance grade.

Vocal Music I Performance Attire Women: 1. Black dress pants or slacks. No jeans or jogging pants. 2. White shirt or blouse. ¾ length or long sleeves. No T-shirts. 3. Black dress shoes. Flats or a very minimal heel.

Men: 1. Black dress pants or slacks. No jeans or jogging pants. 2. White button up dress shirt with collar. Long sleeve. 3. Black dress shoes.
