Rodski S Vocational Journey

RODSKI’S VOCATIONAL JOURNEY!

From a young age I wanted to be a Vet and to work with animals. I had a pet dog and generally liked all kinds of animals.

However, when I got to high school my careers teacher informed me that I would have to do subjects like Maths, Science, Biology and Chemistry. The problem was that I hated these subjects and I was especially poor at Math, especially Algebra! For a while there I was not sure what I was going to do.

By the time I reached Year 10 I soon realised that I liked school and wouldn’t mind returning one day as a teacher instead of a student. This idea came about because I really looked up to some of my teachers. Mr Cook (Literature), Mr Noble (English) & Mr Willis (History) are all teachers I still remember fondly to this very day. In fact, a piece of their teaching style has been built-in to the way I teach you!

So I had made my decision to be a teacher and looked forward to shaping young minds and enthusiastically sharing ideas with young people.

Unfortunately, Year 12 was not the end of my education and I had to head off to Latrobe University in Bendigo to do a Bachelor of Arts Degree which would take 3 years! On top of this I had to do a 1 year Diploma in Education to become a qualified Secondary School Teacher. In other words I was 4 year trained to be a teacher.

Teaching is terrific. The pays all right but I’ll never make 6 figures. The holidays are also a plus. But the biggest bonus is working with young people to help them discover their potential and who they want to be in life.

Other than teaching I have other vocational plans for another time later in my life, where I hope to one day own a Golf Driving Range or Small Business Corner Store.
