Professional Development Overview 2007

Our Strategic Plan goals for 2007 guide the decisions that we make about Professional Development. Some of these goals are on-going and continuous and they relate to our school targets.

Our main focus for PD will be our on-going involvement in the ICT PD contract:

 Ensuring effective curriculum integration with an emphasis on using ICT as a tool to enhance learning for students and teachers. This will be achieved through our participation in the ICT PD contract staff meetings, workshops, sessions with Fiona Grant, and attending the relevant conferences e.g. ULearn conference.

We will consolidate and build on our previous learning while focusing on: -

 Trialling the new draft curriculum and developing our own school based curriculum, including a school inquiry learning model.

 Developing a deeper understanding of our commitment to being an EnviroSschool and integrating this into our teaching and learning programmes.

 Further development of a shared understanding of good teaching and learning practice and the needs of a student learning at Sunnybrae.

 Utilising student achievement and self review data effectively to inform teaching and learning programmes; this will include following up on ERO’s recommendations.

 Utilising the Student Management System more effectively to record and collate data to analyse for individual, class, syndicate and school-wide reporting purposes.

 Embedding assessment for learning practices – on-going work on the effective use of formative assessment, extending the use of learning intentions and success criteria further. Use of exemplars and other recommended assessment tools.

 Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) – further developing teacher’s understanding of how to cater for gifted and talented students successfully in the regular classroom programme – refer to GATE Statement of Intent.

 Consolidation of the numeracy project work, ensuring that our Maths programmes are based on this model and linking the other strands effectively.

 Building our knowledge and using successful ESOL strategies and assessments in regular class programmes.

 Building on our understanding and utilisation of the Cool Schools peer mediation programme.

 On-going commitment to and involvement in the Well-Being in Schools Contract, including the Road Sense contract. Sunnybrae Normal Primary School
