As part of the commercial operation of the organisation it is the Business Development department’s role to provide members with services that enhance their businesses, save them money and generate income for the Federation. Our existing range of services covers a broad spectrum including recruitment advertising, employee satisfaction surveys, energy comparison and insurance.

As our Business Development Assistant you will play an important role in helping the Business Development Manager co-ordinate and promote these services to Lion Court customers, colleagues and external partners. 1 Role Profile

Job title: Business Development Assistant

Overall Purpose of the Post

The primary role of the Business Development Assistant is to support the Business Development Manager in organising and delivering new and existing services for the Commercial Services team’s portfolio.

You will contribute to the development of your directorate by helping to promote a range of services and partnerships. Your other main areas of responsibility will cover a broad range of administrative activities.

You will be responsible for undertaking the work agreed with your line manager and informing them in advance of any issues/problems encountered. You must ensure that you work in accordance with the Federation policies and procedures. You will be expected to keep up to date with issues within your department and the National Housing Federation. You will be working as part of a team and liaising with colleagues on a daily basis.

The Business Development Assistant will develop and implement promotional activity for various products and services whilst managing their day to day administration. They will demonstrate effective organisational and time management skills whilst showing flair and creativity in their role and in maximising the ROI. The Business Development Assistant will ensure that all promotional material is produced within corporate brand guidelines and in line with any separate agreements with individual partners.

The Assistant will work with relevant colleagues and external bodies to understand, promote and co-ordinate the Business Development services. This will involve briefing designers and negotiating extensively with suppliers (designers, printers, consultants and sometimes mailing houses) and internal customers (the Federation’s finance, regional and customer services teams etc.). The Assistant will also write, edit and co-ordinate promotional copy. In particular, the Business Development Assistant will have a pivotal role to play in ensuring that each service is promoted to its maximum potential and that all processes are run smoothly and efficiently.

The Assistant will also sometimes be needed to design and amend simple publicity material (flyers and booking forms etc.) in-house using templates and other tools.

Merchandising and stand management

The Business Development Assistant will be involved in managing the Business Development requirements for on-site material at all conferences and events where the Federation has an exhibition presence, and attending exhibitions, conferences and events as required. They will also need to network to create and develop good working relationships with members and commercial companies alike and sell Federation products and services.

The Business Development Assistant will also have responsibilities for:

 Promoting services and partnerships through marketing campaigns, from proofing copy to setting up emails, direct mails and press releases etc  Day to day management of relationships with external organisations including design and print suppliers and business development partners  Dealing effectively with invoices, purchase orders and day to day administration of the Business Development team  Dealing effectively with requests for information and queries from colleagues, partners, external organisations and members  Ensuring that the Federation’s high standards of internal and external customer service are delivered at all times.

4 Terms and Conditions

Salary £21,420 to £25,500 pa

Hours of Work This role is a 35-hour week. Attendance at Federation conferences may be required including possible overnight stays.

Probationary Period This post is subject to a three-month probationary period.

Annual Leave The holiday entitlement 30 days, in addition to public holidays, including three days paid holiday leave taken between Christmas Day and New Year's Day inclusive.

Occupational Sick Pay The entitlement to sick pay is service-related, starting with one month's full pay during the first year of service and rising to six months full pay after 5 years service.

Pension Scheme We currently offer the following two pension schemes:

1. Membership of CARE (career averaged related earnings) scheme - this is a defined benefit scheme. Contributions to this scheme will be 10.1% (employee) and 12.3% (employer).

2. Membership of a defined contribution pension scheme. Contribution rates for both the employer and employee will be 3%.

5 Place of Work This role is based in Holborn, London. Our head office is based in London and we have regional offices in Bristol and Manchester.
