SCHEME OF WORK Front Sheet (Guidance for teachers) Equality and Diversity Partnership Project Fund 2012/13 Course Module/Unit/Subject Introduction to the Aviation Awarding Kingston College Industry and the role of cabin Body crew.

Rationale This project is funded by the Skills Funding Agency and Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) to encourage learning and skills providers to submit bids to deliver projects which advance equality, diversity and inclusion, the aim of the fund is to support innovative and sustainable projects which develop the capacity of the sector to meet the public sector Equality Duty.

The aviation sector is aiming to provide 14-16 year olds with information to gaining employment within the aviation industry. The college is taking great strides in working with major UK airlines to give our learners a clear pathway from study direct to employment. (To provide a background as to the purpose of the module, the benefits to be gained from studying it and the mode of assessment) Prior Learning These learners will be recruited through links with schools.

Progression Progression could be encouraged through application for further courses within the college, work experience is rare in the cabin crew sector but applying to one of our specific travel and tourism courses would be advantageous.

Arrangements in place for delivery of the module Provision will be an after school workshop.

Differentiation Students can work independently and in groups. The more able students mix with the less able when working in groups. suitable to their needs.

Key Skills / Functional Skills / Literacy & Numeracy The school learners will be introduced on how the college integrates functional

Scheme of Work / Format 2012_13 skills into its teaching programmes. All learners will be taught that the college places a high emphasis on experiential learning (learning by doing). The college also promotes the use of ICT as a learning tool and both English and Maths are incorporated where possible. For example when working out different currencies during a duty free session on board the aircraft

Employability Skills Employability skills are varied within the sector. During the taster sessions learners will be aware on how to gain further information on employment opportunities through researching individual websites of airlines. Once the partnership with Monarch Airlines has been set up then our learners will be studying this specific airline and have the opportunity to be guaranteed an interview. Equality and Diversity Involvement from learners within the groups who originate from, or have knowledge of other countries to broaden all our knowledge is encouraged. The aviation sector naturally lends itself to being a diverse industry due to the destinations of the flights which leave the UK on a daily basis. This will be discussed in detail during the taster sessions

ICT/e-learning Will not be used in the taster sessions due to being in rooms with no computer provision References Learners will be directed to the following websites for further information www.kingston-college.ac.uk www.careerintravel.co.uk www.prospects.ac.uk www.monarch.co.uk www.ba.com
