South Ayrshire Community Safety Team
The Community Safety team, support the development of the Community Safety Partnership, which is a Strategic Delivery Group of Community Planning. The four key priorities of the CSP are:- • Reduce the level of violence and antisocial behaviour in our communities (this to include tackling violence against women and children, fire raising, vandalism etc.)
• Reduce the impact alcohol/drug misuse has on our communities (this to include stronger links with the Alcohol and Drugs Partnership and Strategy)
• Reduce the number of serious accidents at home and on our roads (this to include stronger links with the Health and Social Care Partnership)
• Increase positive community engagement to tackle ASB and community safety issues within communities.
The Community Safety team take a preventative and early intervention approach to addressing community safety and antisocial behaviour issues within local communities. This includes working with young people who are involved in, or on the periphery of antisocial behaviour in their community. Some of this work involves engaging with groups of young people and involving them in positive activities within their local area.
Increasingly this has involved Work with individual young people who have been involved in, or in the periphery of ASB or offending in their local community. Much of this work is developed and carried out with partners, and linked to wider strategic plans and young people are often referred to these programmes from a number of referral sources including Social Work, School, police, Campus Officers and complaints from the local community.
There are 5 Community Safety Officers who work on a locality basis and are linked with the secondary school in their area. Each officer works closely with the Campus Police officer, and has supported young people within secondary schools, and the cluster primaries.
