SUMMARY More than twenty-five years of experience in providing timely and innovative solutions to technical problems by integrating geochemistry, geology and engineering disciplines for conventional and unconventional targets. Team skill demonstration by successful completion of interdisciplinary projects in 50+ countries and 200+ petroleum basins. Personal skill set includes attention to detail, multi-dimensional (time and space) visualization and rapid concept/data assimilation. Seeking opportunities to serve clients around the world.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Petroleum Systems International, Inc. (Salt Lake City, UT) 1999-present President and Petroleum Systems Analyst  Provide state-of-art interpretation and technology in the disciplines of organic geochemistry and petroleum systems to client base that spans mega-majors to independents. Projects include basin-scale risk assessment and exploration strategies (e.g., prospect delineation and well placement); field-scale development activities (e.g., reservoir compartments, well placement to optimize investment return, flow assurance); and well-scale assessments (e.g., by-passed pay, engineering test strategies). Particularly successful in providing solutions to special technical challenges (e.g., delineation of reservoir compartments within compositional graded oil columns; identification of oil shows in wells drilled with oil-based muds; etc.). Product development and services aimed at reducing client drilling expenditures and providing input for timely operation decisions. Most important accomplishment involves providing techincal geochemical and petroleum systems solutions that have influenced exploration / development decisions leading to approximately 100 oil/gas field discoveries around the world. Awarded “Scientist of the Year 2010” by AAPG – RMAG for innovative approaches to petroleum systems analysis. University of Utah - Civil & Environonmental / Chemical & Fuels Engineering (Salt Lake City, UT) 1994-2003 Research Associate Professor  Active research projects in development of flow assurance and environmental remediation technologies – personal emphasis on integrating physical sciences and engineering disciplines. Supervision and direction of graduate student research programs. Projects include optimizing CO2 miscible flooding, development of oil spill clean-up technology for Kuwait desert and analytical protocol / procedures within the engineering program. Most important accomplishment involved role in the development of an ozone-based remediation system that selectively attacks aromatic rings in tandem with a novel bipolar solvent system without polymerization reactions nor formation of toxic by-products (US and international patents issued). Humble Geochemical Services (Salt Lake City, UT) 1998-1999 Vice President  Leader of interpretation team for the Texas-based geochemical service laboratory. Revised procedures (e.g., revamp GC- MS) and streamlined work flows of laboratory services division to increase operation efficiency. Provided customer technical support and expanded client-base. Most important accomplishments were expanding the product line and raising technical visibility of the company. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (cont.) University of Utah – Energy & Geosciences Institute (Salt Lake City, UT and Columbia, SC) 1992-1998 Team Leader, Petroleum Systems and Organic Geochemistry  Responsible for project development, technical input, and team supervision within a university-based research group supported by oil industry consortiums. Pioneered analytical and interpretive developments with application to petroleum systems research (quantitative biomarkers, integration of geochemical data to geologic system) and flow assurance (quantitative wax analysis, GC mass balances, organic sulfur chemistry). Successfully used interpersonal and technical skills to sustain cooperative alliances on both corporate and academic levels (e.g., Academy of Sciences in FSU). Most important accomplishment involved providing technical assistance to more than 30 oil companies per year. University of Tulsa – Geosciences Department (Tulsa, OK) 1991-1992 Research Associate, Integrated Basin Studies and Organic Geochemistry  Technical lead and facilitator of industrial research consortium with geographic base in the southern Midcontinent (USA). Daily supervisor and training for graduate students and international technical aid programs (e.g., World Bank). Most important accomplishment involved updating and expanding geochemical facilities. Geochemical Manpower (Tulsa, OK) 1987-1992 Geochemical Consultant  Provided laboratory analysis and interpretation for industrial clients involved in the evironmental and oil-and-gas industries. Client base included majors and independents. Most important accomplishment involved demonstration of oil industry tools to solve problems of environmental contamination (e.g., judicial litigation impact). Amoco Production Company – Research Center (Tulsa, OK) 1988-1989 Research Scientist (Internship Program), Geochemistry Group  Responsible for development and application of new technologies related to organic sulfur chemistry in petroleum. This involved hands-on development in the laboratory, as well as interpretive methods. Most important accomplishment was the discovery of hydrogen polysulfides in crude oil, which are responsible for the increased viscosity of some high sulfur crude oils, along with their tendency to sour upon thermal stimulation. Robertson Research (Houston, TX) 1985-1986 Geologist-Geochemist  Responsibilities included geochemical interpretation, technical support to clients and supervision of laboratory staff. Work assignments included optical petrography (reflected and transmitted light) that facilitated experience in palynology. Most significant accomplishment involved resolution of geochemical sampling problems on the offshore wells. Baroid Logging Systems (Lafayette, LA) 1985 MWD Field Engineer  Member of field crew of measurement-while-drilling and directional drilling team operating in the offshore Gulf of Mexico. Responsibilities included rigging up/down logging units, monitoring drilling depths and drilling mud properties, data acquisition, preliminary interpretation of logging results, and occasional mudlogging. Most significant accomplishment was gaining knowledge of offshore rig culture and physical setting of the operations environment.
