Class Description: Life Science (Biology) is directly related to the Georgia Performance Standards as outlined from the following website for Science -7th grade: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Standards/Pages/BrowseStandards/ScienceStandards6- 8.aspx We will experience, observe, and learn how science has played a vital role in the knowledge and life we live today.

Teacher Responsibility: It is my responsibility to inform you the content area set by the State of Georgia (as stated above). I also feel that it is my responsibility to protect, care, respect, love and guide you through this year. I will help you learn, but you have to put forth the same effort. It is my duty to prepare you for upcoming 9th grade Biology.

Student Requirement: It is your duty to complete all warm-ups, class-work, homework (my website under forms), labs, quizzes, tests, and keep a notebook, journal & portfolio. ------P.C. students (Gifted and Advanced) will be required to participate and conduct a Science Fair Experiment via teacher led instruction Sept-Dec. and submit in January. You are expected to follow classroom rules, and lab rules. It is also your responsibility to make-up any work missed from my class. Make-Up work: If you are absent it is your responsibility to obtain any missed work from the teacher. You have the same number of days to turn in work from an excused absence as the amount of days missed from class.

No Name on Assignments: Students must have their name on every assignment turned in to receive credit. If turned in with “No Name” check my file (in front of class). The score of a zero will be placed by that assignment unless turned in directly to Ms. Akers with a name at least 1 week BEFORE each 9 week grading period ends, no exceptions.

Late work: 10 points will be deducted from each assignment grade each day it’s late after the due date and will not be accepted 1 week BEFORE each 9 week grading period ends.

Grades: Homework is weighted as 10% of the final grade. Tests/Assessments are weighted as 30% of the final grade. Quizzes is weighted as 15% of the final grade. Classwork is weighted as 25% of the final grade. Lab reports/Projects are weighted as 15% of the final grade. Participation is weighted as 5% of the final grade.

● Homework: Work to be completed at home, as assigned (FSMS website Click on - School Staff, Jeanette Akers, See Calendar and turned in when due. ● Class-work: Work to be completed in class. Students will be graded on posters, presentations, labs, notebooks, warm-ups, etc. and accuracy of work completed. ----Remediation via monthly Knight Time Days & Moby Max ● Quizzes: Students are subject to have quizzes to assess what they have learned or if completed assignments. Such quizzes can be a Pop Quiz! (Hint: Sign up for my Remind) ● Notebooks: Students will be graded on the completion of their Science Composition Notebook as class work at the end of each science unit. Notes, foldable & etc. should be appropriately placed into the Notebook. The notebook will be for notes, work, and use to complete a study guide for tests, quizzes, and final exam at the end of the year. ● Class Participation: Students are required to participate in labs, activities, journal, class work, and group work and will be required to develop a portfolio at the end of each unit. If your student has an issue with group work, please let me know. Students will be graded based on how well they perform their chosen group jobs/tasks given to them. 7 th Life Science Units Unit 1: Characterizing and Classifying Life Unit 4: Genetics Unit 2: Cells Unit 5: Interdependency of Life Unit 3: Organization of Life Unit 6: Change Over Time Class Materials: 2) Composition notebooks 2) Pocket Folders (1 for your binder and 1 for class portfolio) Notebook paper, pencils, pens. Copy agenda message and leave on your desk at all times. 4. Turn in assigned homework. 5. Begin daily warm-up. Classroom Rules: 1. Always be Respectful ladies and gentleman. 2. Rewards: (not in any particular order) 1. A “Good” phone call home. 2. Good Merit Award (Knight Bucks) 5. Free Homework Pass 6.
