You have the following assignments for SFR 101 field week. Check the web site for links to readings to help write the papers.

Stand inventory: Structure, soils, and wildlife: data (20 pt) 6. Choose one paper to complete (40 pt): a. Forest recreation Describe what was done, how information can be used. b. Stand inventory: (data summary in a pdf file on web site) Items that could be included are using data to describe the relationship between soils and tree species, and the relationship between stand structure with wildlife species. Write the paper as if you are describing the forest to the owner of the Tanglewood Woodlot. Abbreviations: ab= American beech, bf= balsam fir, eh= eastern hemlock, pb= paper birch, rm=red maple, ro= red oak, rp= red pine, rs= red spruce, wp = white pine c. Fish population assessment (data summary from previous year on web site) Items that could be included are the fish species caught, the biology of the Atlantic salmon, quality of the salmon habitat in the river, and how proper forest management can improve habitats of Atlantic salmon. d. White pine silviculture and operations Items that could be included are descriptions of forest operations and white pine silviculture. e. Wood products Items that could be included are descriptions of the products and processes at Robbins Lumber Mill. Write up to 1 page per 10 points (4 total), typed and double-spaced, for each paper. Each paper will need the components of your typical college writing assignment (see below). If you use published references, cite them. You MUST include observations that you made during camp.
