Hi All, Al was absent at the board meeting, but I’m sure he would be hoping everyone was doing okay and out enjoying the weather. We still have a couple of events and some more Nursing/Home Retirement visits coming up; be sure to check your calendar for the listings as things are starting to wind down for the season. Sick & Shut-Ins Linda Biggins – Chair Cecil Chalmers has been in the hospital. He is now home and doing better. Cards may be Nancy Brailey had surgery again. Nancy was sent to: 9324 Kreuter Rd, NE moved from ICU into Harper Hospital today. Rockford, MI 49341 Her surgery was nine hours and her health had declined so much, so I expect a long recovery. Ione Sheridan was in the hospital for blood Hopefully they will be able to transfer Nancy clots. She is home now and doing better. 5 Extra Newsworthy News

Annual Catered Picnic Sunday, August 5th – at the Veterans Park in Coopersville. We had a great turnout this year. We had lots of new faces; many of our newer members came to enjoy the day. As always, great food and plenty of it. Lots of fun, fellowship, and prizes given out. We wish to thank all of those who came to help set up and also to clean up and to those who volunteered to bring desserts. We made $183.00 on the raffle, which helps offset the cost of the picnic. Back Seat Drivers

SEPTEMBER Recipes All-American Hamburger 2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion 1 lb. ground beef 2 Tbsp. chili sauce 4 slices American or cheddar cheese 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 2 slices Swiss cheese 2 tsp. prepared mustard 4 hamburger buns, split & toasted Lettuce, tomato, cooked bacon, ketchup, mustard (optional) In a large bowl, combine chopped onion, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce & mustard. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into four patties. Grill, covered, over med. heat for 6 minutes on each side or until done to desired consistency. During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with cheese. Serve on buns with optional toppings.

7 Easy Baked Tomatoes

4 tomatoes, halved crosswise 1/4 cup Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese

Heat grill to med heat. Place tomatoes, cut sides up, in a disposable foil pan. Drizzle with dressing; sprinkle with cheese. Place pan on grill grate, cover with lid. Grill 15 min. or until tomatoes are softened * cheese is lightly browned.

Ooey-Gooey Turtle Bars 1 roll (16.5 oz) refrigerated sugar cookies ½ cup packed light brown sugar 1 bag (12 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups) 1 jar (12.25 oz) caramel ice cream topping 3 cups Chopped pecans 1 cup graham cracker crumbs (16 sqs) ½ cup butter Heat oven to 350^. Press cookie dough evenly in bottom of ungreased 13x9 baking pan. Sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 ½ cups pecans over dough. Lightly press into dough. Set aside. In 2 qt. saucepan, melt butter over med-high heat. Stir in brown sugar, caramel topping and graham cracker crumbs. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly Pour over crust in pan; spread evenly. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup chocolate chips and 1 ½ cups pecans. Bake 25 to 32 minutes or until edges are deep golden brown and pecans are lightly toasted. Cool on cooling rack 30 minutes. Loosen sides from pan, but do not cut. Cool completely about 3 hours longer. For firmer bars, let stand an additional 2 hours.
