Overview: The students will develop a greater understand of the complex relationship between nutrition and wellness in this one semester course. During the course of the semester, we will be using project based learning to investigate various aspects of nutrition and wellness including eating habits, food choices, and diet.

Supplies: Electronic device (computer, tablet, etc.), fully charged, with internet access 1 package of loose-leaf paper (to be turned in) 5 pencils (to be turned in) 3 black pens (to be turned in) 1 - 3 prong 2 pocket folder with 1st and last name printed neatly on the top right of the cover **Other supplies may be needed over the course of the semester to complete project ideas students have created.**

Attendance: Punctuality is necessary for success in this class. Students will be required to record tardiness and absences. Please be aware that a student arriving 15 minutes or more into the class period will be marked absent per Spring ISD attendance policy. Also, instructions, assignments, quizzes, etc will start at the beginning of the class. Students without a written excuse, who arrive late to class, will also miss opportunities for additional points or minor grades. It is the student’s responsibility to complete work missed due to absences. Students are given the number of days they were absent plus one, to make up their assignments. Google Docs, Wikispace, or student e-mail will have notes and power points available for review; however lab activities will require the student come in before or after school to complete. Major projects are due by the final date assigned. They may be turned in up to 5 days prior. If students need additional tutoring or assistance with an assignment, they need to schedule time with their instructor.

Behavior: Appropriate, professional behavior is expected of all students in this class. Students will be working extensively together on group assignments. Failure to work cooperatively and appropriately with others may jeopardize the student’s grades. In project based learning, there is a large component of the grade which requires that students work together successfully.

Students have the opportunity to be out of the classroom up to five times each semester without consequences. Reasons for leaving the classroom or arriving late include being tardy, going to the restroom, visiting the counselor/tower office/library, etc. EVERY subsequent time the student is out of class will result in a parent phone call and assignment of a one hour detention to be served after school on designated detention days. Refusal to serve detention will result in an office referral. CLASSROOM AND PROFESSIONAL POLICY

These are the professional expectations, the student must maintain: 1. Arriving on time and prepared for class. 2. Following established procedures and rules in class. 3.
