Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT presents solutions for tool producers at GrindTec New grades, rods and preforms for solid carbide tools

The top-class brand Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT will be showing an extended range of carbide grades, drill blanks and end mill blanks at GrindTec 2016. This extended programme provides a high-quality product portfolio for a broad variety of applications in the tooling industry.

From 16 to 19 March at GrindTec in Augsburg, Germany, Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT will be presenting new solutions for producers of solid carbide tools: at stand 5028 in hall 5 the carbide expert will be showcasing its extended CTS grade range. Grades CTS25D and CTS30D are part of the particularly tough carbide grades for the production of cutting tools, while grade CTF25E features excellent resistance to breakage in PCD tools and tool shanks. The extended product portfolio includes new diameters for drill blanks with through- coolant and more than 50 new dimensions for end mill blanks.

CTS25D – for critical machining tasks Grade CTS25D is very tough thanks to its high binder content of 12.5 %. As a result, the risk of edge chipping with this cutting material is minimised while at the same time ensuring a regular distribution of wear along the cutting edge. CTS25D is particularly suitable for tools used in difficult conditions. At low cutting speeds, with unstable cutting conditions (vibration) and when machining titanium or heat-resistant materials this carbide grade increases tool life, process security and repeatability of the tool.

CTS30D – the toughest grade for cutting tools The submicron grade CTS30D with a cobalt content of 15 % is the toughest CERATIZIT grade available for the production of metal cutting tools. Thanks to a hardness of 1400 HV30, CTS30D closes the gap between HSS and classic submicron grades. It is suitable for niche applications with threading tools as well as with cutting tools under difficult machining conditions. Producers can also use CTS30D for wear parts, in particular in the tool and die industry.

1 CTF25E – wear-resistant grade for PCD tools and tool shanks The fine grain carbide grade CTF25E is well-suited for the production of tool shanks and tool bodies with PCD. The coarser grain together with a higher cobalt content optimises both brazability and resistance to breakage. Therefore, it is easier for tool producers to further process CTF25E. Even for the most sophisticated executions, problematic jointing issues and critical forms, the stability of the carbide is guaranteed thanks to its high toughness, while CT25E also shows great resistance to stress in tool shanks with connection threads.

Drill blanks with through-coolant up to 5xD Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT has extended the stock programme of semi-finished tools for drills by diameters up to 5xD. The blanks are characterised by helical coolant holes with a surface ground mat to h5 tolerance that improves the pull-out resistance of the tool shank in shrink-fit applications. This complies with the standard for cutting tools suitable for MQL (minimum quantity lubrication).

Over 50 new dimensions for end mill blanks More than 50 new dimensions offer the tool producers additional cut-to-lengths for end mill blanks in the grades CTS20D and TSF22. The increased selection of cut-to-lengths available from stock for the manufacturers reduces the need for machining non-suitable blanks, thereby helping to save costs. The new dimensions are ground to h5 tolerance thus creating optimal prerequisites for very high precision and performance capacity of the tools.
