After winning the Regional Futsal Competition in Term 1 of this year, the Under 14 girls Futsal team (similar to indoor soccer) played 5 matches in the Northern NSW Futsal Championships at Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium on Tuesday 18 June, 2013. The girls easily won their three qualifying matches against St Josephs, Taree and West Wallsend. They then faced a very physical Rutherford team in the semi-finals which saw our girls down 3 - 1 at half time. In the 2 nd half with near perfect defence and skilful demonstrations in attack, the girls clawed back to win 7- 4. Congratulations to all of the girls who played in the two teams. I would also like to thank the outgoing Year 12 girls team members, Lucy Metcalfe, Michelle Nieass and Natalie Sternbeck, for representing Henry Kendall High at Futsal and Football (soccer) during their at time high school. It was great also to have some parents come along to support the girls.

Whilst there were some outstanding individual performances, every single player in these two teams gave 100% effort to their team. It was this team work that allowed the Under 14 and Open girls to totally out perform their opponents. As always, our girls showed terrific “sportswomanship” and respect towards the referees and their opponents. A great fun day was had by all involved.

Of the 15 girls who played in total between the two teams, 11 girls were invited to join the State Team for the Nationals this October in Sydney. Under 19 Team members, back row from left to right: Layla Leccas, Elyse Tully, Michelle Nieass , Natalie Sternbeck. Front row : Tahlor Thackray, Lucy Metcalfe (C) and Seokyoung Inn (Sar)
