Programme Outline Bobo is a very rude puppet. She does not say sorry to her friend, Ken, when she is late one day. Ken gets very angry. Bobo then goes to ask Aunt Mary what to do. Aunt Mary is an agony aunt. She helps children solve their problems. She advises Bobo to make an apology to Ken. Bobo understands that she should learn to be polite. She says sorry to Ken and they become friends again. Aunt Mary also helps Little Bill. He is afraid to talk to his teacher. She sends Bobo to give Little Bill a box. What is inside the box? How can it help Little Bill to talk to his teacher?

Pre-viewing Activity 1. Ask pupils what they would do and say when they did something wrong. Brainstorm ideas. 2. Introduce the title of the programme and the main characters, Aunt Mary, Bobo and Little Bill. Tell the class that using good manners in talking to people can make everyone happy. 3. Teacher then introduces the target language to the class, for example, “ I’m sorry.”, “That’s all right.”, “Thank you.” and “You’re welcome.” etc. 4. Tell pupils to read BoBo’s Notebook carefully in the programme. They can learn how to speak politely.

1 While-viewing Activity Watch and Listen For completing COPYMASTER 1, pupils have to listen to the conversation carefully while watching the programme. Give pupils time to think before they circle the right answer for each question.

Question a. Bobo is late. What should Bobo say to Ken? Answer: I’m sorry.

Question b. Mr Postman brings Aunt Mary letters. What does she say to him? Answer: Thank you very much.

Question c. Little Bill wants Miss Cook to teach him English. What should he say? Answer: Excuse me. Miss Cook. Can you teach me English, please?

Question d. Miss Cook wants Little Bill to open the door. What does she say? Answer: Can you open the door, please?

Post-viewing Activities 1. Learn to be polite In COPYMASTER 2(Part 1a), pupils imagine that they are Ken and Bobo is talking to them. Pupils read what Bobo says first and then write down what they should say to her by using the sentences provided. They can choose more than one correct answer for each blank.

a. Bobo: I’ m sorry. Answers: Ken: That ’ s all right./ That ’ s okay.

b. Bobo: Thank you very much. Answer: Ken: You ’ re welcome.

c. Bobo: Can you help me, please? Answers: Ken: Of course./ Sure.

d. Bobo: Can you lend me a pen, please? Answer: Ken: Sure. Here you are.

2 2. Now practise the dialogue with your classmates. As a speaking activity, pupils act out the scenes of the programme to practise the dialogue in a meaningful way COPYMASTER 2 (Part 1b). Teacher may replay the segments for pupils to watch again. The segments are as follows: a. A young man bumps into an old woman in the street. b. Bobo thanks Aunt Mary for teaching her to say sorry. c. Little Bill’s classmate asks Little Bill to help with his homework. d. Little Bill borrows a pen from his classmate.
