Informing Interested Students About Veterinary Medicine:

My Career Poster Project

Last year, I completed high school community service hours by volunteering at the Rancho Cucamonga animal shelter. While there, I decided I would like to pursue a career where I can help animals. Now, I am taking courses at Chaffey

College, and I am preparing to pursue a career as a veterinarian. I designed my poster, “A Career in Veterinary Medicine,” to provide information to Chaffey

College students who wish to pursue careers in this field.

To inform interested Chaffey College students, my poster features pictures which highlight the important personal qualities of veterinarians. For instance, one picture

(Picture A) features a sick dog. He is holding a thermometer in his mouth. His eyes are closed, and he has an ice pack on his head. This picture represents the importance of wanting to care for sick animals. People who do not want to take care of animals who are sick should choose another career. Another picture (Picture B) features a crying child. Overall, poster viewers should gain understanding about important personal qualities for future veterinarians.

Also, my poster features quotations from resources, addressing preparation for employment as a veterinarian. Quotation One is from the Bureau of Labor

Statistics website. This quotation focuses on the required educational preparation, necessary for veterinarians. I learned from this quotation that I must earn a doctorate in order to be a veterinarian. I selected this quote because interested

Chaffey College students should be aware of the extensive time they will need to dedicate to pursuing their educational goals. Next, Quotation Two is also from the

Bureau of Labor Statistics. This quotation focuses on the employment outlook for this field. I learned from this quotation that the outlook is positive. I selected this quote because interested students should know that the field is seeing some growth; this growth means there may be additional positions available for students who complete the required preparation. Given the current recession, students should be knowledgeable about future job growth expectations for the professions they are pursuing. Finally, I chose one last quote; this one I picked just because it is so important. In conclusion, students who are interested in becoming veterinarians should find the previous poster quotations informative.

Overall, students should find my poster to be a helpful introduction to careers in veterinary medicine. Still, their career development plans should not end with my poster. Instead, they should consider additional steps to take as they pursue their veterinary medicine careers.
