THIS IS TO BE KEPT IN YOUR ENGLISH BINDER ALL YEAR!

Please bring to each class: Term 1 –30% 3-ring binder with dividers Term 2 – 40% (includes Mid-year extra paper exam =16% of school year mark) pens (dark ink), pencils, highlighter Term 3 – 30% Student Agenda Final Exam – none! Silent reading book Course material

Written work includes paragraphs, creative writing, responses and essays to demonstrate critical, creative and reflective thinking expressed clearly and effectively. In-class writing is to be expected. ( min. 40% each term)

Speaking & Listening, Participation includes positive and productive class involvement (active listening, thoughtful discussion, pertinent questions…) and bringing course materials and supplies to class. Each class you will earn or lose points. (7.5%)*

Silent Reading requires literary reading material brought to each class that you are able and willing to read for the required time. Written record and personal responses will be checked. (10%)*

Home & Class Work requires careful and prompt completion of assigned work (12.5%)*

Projects, tests, quizzes will make up balance of mark each term (30%)* *allocation of marks may be adjusted each term to best reflect class assignments

If you are late, knock once quietly and wait – you will not be able to recover missed marks due to lateness.

Missed tests, late assignments: A parent-written note is required for consideration to write a missed test (includes in-class writing). Be prepared to write at scheduled time or receive zero.

To demonstrate your responsibility and accountability, hand in all assignments on time. Late assignments receive a penalty of 10% per calendar day, including non-instructional days. Assignments will only be accepted up to one week after due date or term cut-off, whichever comes first.
