The Operations function within the Department consists of four teams who provide a complete range of personnel services on a dedicated basis for one Faculty plus a range of Support Departments.

The services provided within the HR operations function are: -

 Recruitment Advice on job content, advertising, media (adverts are placed by the Advertising Manager who is based in Communications and External Relations), arrangements for interviews, presentations, collection of references/medical information, notification of interview results to candidates

 Appointment arrangements and issuing of employment contracts  Notification of probation arrangements to line managers  Administration of statutory and occupational maternity, sickness, adoption and paternity leave  Salary assessments for new staff and notification to Payroll (based in Finance) for all new employees and employees who change their role during their employment, including hourly paid lecturers  Casework matters  Employment advice to staff and managers

Staff Development

The Staff Development Function is dedicated to the design of high quality internal training and development opportunities which underpin Faculty, Departmental and University plans and which are available to all staff.

Staff development also manages the arrangements for attendance at external training events and the University’s sponsored study programme.
