WORK IN PROGRESS:

Gales, L.M. “Culture and technology: International differences in preferences for and management of technology solutions in business.” This study will investigate national/cultural differences in the extent to which firms prefer technology-driven solutions to other (human resources, financial or competitive) and will examine differences in how firms manage the innovations across a sample of firms in North America, France, Austria, the Czech Republic, Chile, and China.

Gales, L.M. Li, J. and Barzantny, C. “Culture and justice: A cross-cultural examination of fairness.” We are investigating the extent to which culture and language affect people’s perceptions and expectations for fairness (i.e., procedural justice, distributive justice, and interactive justice). The study initially is to be conducted in the US, France, Austria, Mexico, Spain and China. The theoretical foundations for this work are the interface between works in the field of organizational justice and culture.

Gales, L.M. and Glaser, E. “Intercultural global virtual team performance and student expectations.” This study explores the relationship among student expectations, actions and performance in multicultural international global teams. Teams composed of US and European students complete projects using video conference, internet and voice of internet technology. Performance is predicted to be related to the accuracy of students’ perceptions of the ease or difficulty of working in multicultural dispersed virtual teams.

CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS:  Cross-cultural/multi-cultural management, particularly as it applies to issues of justices, fairness and trust.  Governance and corporate control with respect to innovation, R&D, expansion and compensation.  International technology development and diffusion.
