Making the Most of the Partners in Mission Resources

MAKING THE MOST OF THE PARTNERS IN MISSION RESOURCES! Keeping the Flag Flying!

The 2015 Partners in Mission resource package is a blend of familiar and new material content. Take time to review the DVD prior to the start of your campaign, sharing with your local leaders items that might be particularly useful for the groups in which they have leadership responsibility. Here are a few ideas to use as ‘starters’:

General Audience: Begin the Partners in Mission campaign with the short “Introductory” video, which introduces the campaign in general as well as Malawi, Liberia and Zimbabwe, our Africa Territory partners highlighted throughout the campaign. The Salvation Army is vibrant and enthusiastic in each of our partner territories in Africa. Nonetheless, they face significant challenges. These videos provide you with a better insight into the ministry of The Salvation Army.

The videos from Zimbabwe are in storytelling and episode form. Each video ends with a preview of what the next “episode” is about. Ideally we suggest showing the videos in order but if, for some reason, a congregation member misses an episode, please encourage the congregation to visit our website at www.saworldmissions.ca for all 12 videos.

We have also included two videos from our 2014 Partners in Mission Campaign highlighting Liberia and Sierra Leone. The two videos, entitled “The Piggery” and “Vocational Training”, highlight the work of The Salvation Army in these two countries.

The resource section of the DVD includes PowerPoint-ready pictures, a maize photo story from Malawi, in PowerPoint, bulletin inserts, territorial summaries, can label and much more! On March 1st we will be releasing even more resources on our website. Please mark this date on your calendar to access stories, fundraising ideas and more!

In the second week of the campaign, we suggest showing the video titled “An Arm’s Length”. This video begins our journey to Zimbabwe.

As a suggestion for the last week of the campaign, we conclude with the opening of the new Howard Hospital. The video, entitled “Community”, features Commissioner Susan McMillan.

These videos are intended for congregational viewing, however, these could also be used in other settings along with our resource material. Here are some suggestions:

Bible Study Groups Videos, as well as the teen or adult resources, will provide background to a discussion on the challenges facing our African partners. The Bible Study/Sermon Helps developed by Colonels Robert and Marguerite Ward offer thoughts on how to approach a Partners in Mission worship service. The video entitled “Our Calling” can lead to a discussion on how God speaks to us in unique ways in regard to our specific calling. Youth and Children This year, we are offering children and youth resources to help each child learn about life in Africa. The resource entitled “Unhu/Ubuntu: We Need Each Other”, developed by Rochelle McAlister, offers stories of four teenagers from Zimbabwe. They are fictional characters but based on combinations of real Zimbabwe youth. The purpose of this resource is to discover how youth in Zimbabwe are similar as well as different to youth in Canada. The video titled “Words like Rain” gives a sense of adventure and what our narrator experiences spending time in Zimbabwe, from the vehicle getting stuck in the mud to an outpouring of love and praise during a Tshelanyemba worship service.
